Don't know in what category i would be, but i'm running Boston Accoustics speakers on an audison amp.
local shop here sells jl,eclipse,clarion,crossfire,alpine...guess i didnt really consider them a specialty shop....i think jl is a tad bit overpriced for what you get imho

There ain't no need to cry. Time's up. It's time to die....
Oh, forgot to mention: OEM Jeep (Chrysler?) HU, OEM speakers.
They're good enough (for now) for my OEM ears.
rainbow is in the top line world wide....the professional series 3-ways run $1000 on retial...
all these people complaining about how this or that is over priced....I wonder what you consider to be a good price...
to call JL over priced? it's one of the best products you can get FOR THE MONEY in the car audio world...JL does a LOT of RandD work that a lot of companies out there just try and copy....Ahem *audiobahn* ahem.....
i've never understood people who say this or that is over priced.....the majority of the time it's just people who don't know what goes into making the product or the development of the product......that takes A LOT of money
bah - hopefully this doesn't start a flame war...
I am happy to see that there are quite a few other people on here who appreciate high quality equipment....there is hope!
heheheh

I don't have many kind words to say about audiobahn. As far as jl goes, they do their homework when it comes to building something, but still...the price of the w7 is a bit much when you consider what you get.Competing subs are priced significantly less. However I have no desire to start a flame war,and parts of my system may strike other people as overpriced and not worth the money to so I'll shut upOriginally Posted by Red GTi VR6

Very good to see that we have some other people here that enjoy some finer gear as well.
Figured I may as well post about the "overpricedness" of stuff like JL and Eclipse.
When comparing online companies to stuff at any audio shop, then the audio shop prices will seem overpriced. HOWEVER, you have to keep in mind that shipping some of these uberwoofers cost 50 bucks, which evens out the prices a bit. Plus, when you buy from an audio shop, you can take it back to them if you have a problem. Lets say you need to get your JL sub reconed, and your Brahma reconed. Odds are, you can take your JL back to the store you got it from, and wont have to pay shipping, and may even get everything done for free if its within warranty. However, with the Brahma, you will have to pay 40 to ship it, 100 to recone it, and another 40 to get it back. So in this sense, buying at a store is like getting insurance. The extra cost may never help, but if you have any problems, you will be glad you are dealing with a local place rather than online (however, the people at Adire are very good, so dont think I am trying to downtalk them at all).
Also, it cost a lot more to keep a brick-and-mortar store operating than an online store money wise. So the extra cost also goes into the fact that you can walk into the store, look at the stuff, test the stuf, talk to people, and then buy.
Therefore, I think everything is reasonably priced, but I am taking a gamble with some of my stuff and not buying it locally to save money.
That should clear up everything to everyone who think the stuff is overpriced, with no flameing necessary

to some people - it's not all about SPL.....like I've said before....to people who aren't relly into this stuff, you don't need quality....same with people who are into cars....they can understand where the cost comes from while people who aren't don't see why a ferrari costs so much.....trying to explain those concepts to someone who has no idea is like talking to a wall.....

Not that I disagree with you on the "overpriced" comments (i'm actually ambivalent)...you comparison with Ferrari is simply not true, IMO.
You can easily explain to Joe Schmoe why a Ferrari costs so much by breaking down the measurable performance numbers (admittedly exterior design and rarity factor into the pricing, but those two can be somewhat quantifiable).
When it gets to audio components, however, more often than not, measurable performance numbers do nothing to justify the cost of an item. In its stead, one often gets the "you just don't understand" argument. At least the car audio world is nowhere near as bad as the home audiophile market...(can you say Red Rose Music?)
I like the best.
my door speakers are carbon fibre, neodymium magnet ultra rare illusion audio 10's(no longer made). my front stage consists of these 10's along with illusion audio ch-1 commpression drivers. these things KICK *** in both sound quality & spl. they were originally $1,199 a pair for the horns & $699 for the slim 10's, worth every penny. I would put this simple two way front stage against ANYTHING, including the best from morel, rainbow, dyne audio, mb quart, & all the others, & they will hold there own with the best of them.
my favorite amplifiers are mcintosh, sweet stuff. as far as amps that are great & for a budget I'll go for old school over new crap anyday. I favor PPI art series & old school rockford original power series, but there are many others from back in the day where they were building awsome mosfet amps with quality in mind over mass production, think orion, zapco etc... today they calculate how good is necissary vs. back then when overkill was the word as far as power supplys & components, don't forget back then rockford may have produced 2-3 thousand amps A YEAR, compared to today where they probably pump out more than that a month, with high production comes lower quality in alot of cases, some of the best amps available are HAND MADE/ASSEMBLED which is less heard of today.
I like high end stuff & my favorite source units are alpine. sure there is better stuff out there, but I just love the versatility & function of the alpine products, there lattest processor, the pxa-h700(701) is an increadable example of this, & as far as thorse wining over price, realize that you get what you pay for. I was so impressed with alpines new processor that I would have easily paid DOUBLE the list price, it is that awsome, I was extremely happy to see this technology available for less than $700!!!!who's complaining!!!!!!
It all depends how much you enjoy your audio, my system cost more than alot of peoples whole car, but I wouldn't want any less, **** I'd take a beater with a kick *** system over a late model luxury cruiser with no tunes any day, depends where your prioritys are. I see a lot of guys with new cars complainig about the cost of this or that, if there prioritys were straight thed have a few years older car with a kick *** system for the same price!!!! prioritys man!!!!!! don't stop the music, no.....![]()
