there is someone that have PG R5.1MT and The Epia M1000 ?

Hi at all,
excuse me, I still in design mode of my carpc, I want to know if someone have try to connect the SPDIF (Rca) audio output of the Epia M1000 whit the SPDIF audio input of the PhoenixGold R5.1MT, if someone have this two component or know very well can to say if the volume change when change the master volume of carpc operation system?

I posted a while ago about the 5.1MT volume control

My understand is that SPDIF can not be controlled by mobo so you will have to use the amps power supply. I am sure you know that the 5.1MT has an onboard decoder and also a IR remote with a IR eye on wire so you can install it somewhere that the remote will be able to "see" the eye. All volume and other functions of teh amp (test tones gains ect) are controlled by this remote. Also if you are usinga screen considering wiring the amp to the screen as it dispalys info to an LCD.

Dont know about the epia, but on my laptop, the spdif is controlled by the wave volum and the master controls the main speakers and stereo out. this works both in analog and digital mode on my reciever

I can't say for sure, since I am also just starting out and am only researching the R5.1MT, but from what I can gather so far is that the answer is both yes and no.

If the PC is generating the audio (ie, from an MP3 or AVI or the like), adjust the 'wave' volume (or the master) will adjust the levels that the soundcard outputs to the SPDIF port, and therefore the input levels to the amp, and therefore the output volume of the amp. That part I'm 100% sure on.

HOWEVER.. the bit which I am not 100% on, but seems quite likely, is if you're playing a DVD directly the soundcard will not process the digital signal, but will merely pass it directly onto the SPDIF port. In that case, you have no control over the volume from the PC. Unless the soundcard decodes the 5.1 digital, adjusts the levels, then re-encodes it before sending down the SPDIF port. Unlikely, I would have thought.

Hi, thaks for your reply,
whit my asus motherboard (at home) whit spdif output I sound the kit creative 5700 digital, and when I see a dvd I can Vol up and down, there is only a problem of the dvd player software configuration.
I think the volume change whit r5.1mt, this week I will receive the mobo, then I can made some test and I will advertise you.

I use the epia mii1000 and r5.1mt in my dakota and the volume can only be controlled by the r5.1mt remote. Volume control or even muting on the PC has no effect on the sound. I have read that volume can be controlled on a digital signal, but either the MB doesn't support it or there is an option to enable it unknown to me. I just use the remote since my XM direct is connected with the toslink and I have to use the remote for volume anyways.

Hi,

I've try some set-up and I have found this:

- If I setup WinDvd6 to "Sound Card Analog" whit the "External Pro Logic Processor" activate the Volume

can be regulated.

- If I setup Windvd whit "Digital Output (S/PDIF) for external processor" the Volume must be change only

whit the Dolby Processor of kit Creative.

As I had thought it needs to try to set the drivers or the dvd player.

At the end of the Epia M1000 manual there some example of how to configure WinDvd and PowerDvd.

If someone can test this... thanks.

i have both the M10000 and a PG octane r5.1m
i cannot get it to work with SPDIF and it is driving me nuts!!!
Can anyone in the Los Angeles county help me out?

I have used the M1000 and am now using the M1200 with the PG R5.1MT. Make sure you have set the jumpers on the motherboard for the RCA output connection to SPDIF output. It is factory set at TV out on RCA. Then you must select "coaxial" as the input by using the R5.1MT "input" button on its remote. After that, goto the windows volume control and tick the SPDIF output box on one of the speaker volume controls (however, I can't remember which one this was). Make sure you have have loaded the motherboards sound drivers from the M1000 driver CD)
