I was wondering how you all tune your SQ?
I was wondering how you all tune your SQ?
how we all tune our sound quality?
are you asking how we all tune FOR sound quality?
You put the cd in that you will be listening to for judging, and you tune it....you tune it to how it should sound
if you have a nice home system, that's set up right, you can listen to the cd in the house and see how it sounds in the house and try and recreate it in the car....notice things like where the vocals come from, where all the instruments come from, the tonality, the background sounds, etc
it really helps to know how the songs/tracks SHOULD sound, because until you hear that you won't know how to tune for that sound....
what class and sanctioning body will you be competing in? or have I already asked you that in another thread? lol
I have a nice hone system. But isint that kind of low tech?
I was wondering if you think i could tune it using spectral analysis software at http://www.sigview.com/ to get the best sound. and compaire the peeks and distortion?
I have profesinal audio card for my laptop and Mics.
How do the judges judge you?
I dont know what class i would be in i havent done any competing before, do they have beginer? lol
I can explain all of this but it's going to take a LONG time...
go here for USACi (www.soundoff.org)
or find the IASCA page - depends on who does shows in your area...
using a home theatre isn't low tech, as long as it's a GOOD home theatre
SQ is judged SUBJECTIVELY, NOT on a RTA.....that's the reason IASCA fell apart a few years back, they would judge using a RTA.....it would look good on the RTA, but i fyou sat in the car and listened to it, it sounded like COMPLETE ***....
that's why using a RTA doesn't do it for true SQ in a car...being how they are judged today
do a bit of reading and when I get back from dinner, if I haven't had too much to drink then I'll respond........lol
Ok, So do you think i should buy the SQ Cd from USACI?
And for the presentation they are talking about what do you do for yours?
Ate my dinner while reading that haha
the best place to start is the equipment. I think Red GTi will second this there is more to SQ than flat response, a good set of speakers *cough* focal K2P *cough* has far more depth in its reproduction. more or less you can get a $20 set of Rage speakers from walmart and EQ them flat and they will still sound worse than a set of high end Boston's, focals, ect.
Then placement. placement is MORE importent than the equipment its self, but can get tricky and maddening. I used three feet of mounting tape and tried five placements for my tweeters befor i found one that would work and that sounded ok.
the best thing to do would be "if money is flowing" use a 31*2 band graphic to set it flat then a 5 or 7 parimetric "sp?" to get it to sound good.
well i got all Infinity Reference, I originaly just wanted a great sounding system but i hear no distortion at all. My dads a musician and he can second that, he does a lot of composing, so he knows what his tunes sound like (and are suppost to sound like). so i thught let just do it for funn, then try to get a sponsorshiop fron infinity upgrade to higher end gear.
So for now im not spending another penny on the audio system. lol
I would buy the SQ cd if you are going to get serious about this. it's invaluable.
as for a presentation, I have a powerpoint that I will be printing up and giving to the judge, I have the version printed with notes that I go off of.
I'll second the focal K2Ps....I am pretty much floored by the mid range response these things have....I can't wait till the Beryliums make it over here (on the ship now).....as I will be rebuilding my pillars and putting those tweets in instead of the k2p tweets....there is nothing wrong with the K2P tweets....I'm just willing to go all out hereQuote:

the class that you will be competing in is geared for people like you. The people who have a system in your car, are out driving around and see a show going on. You are interested and what to see what it's all about and go in and pay your few bucks and have the judge tell you what they think.Quote:

The Reference from Infinity is the bottom of the rung as far as their speakers go. If you aren't willing to spend any more money I would seriously consider getting into competition. Once I get teh berylliums, my front stage alone will cost close to $800 for the K2Ps and around $1600 for the berylliums.....
On a sponsorship, i really don't want to come across harsh, but you will be needing to get WAY more into competing if you want to try and get a sponsorship. Coming from someone who s sponsored I will tell you this in all honnesty. Companies look for a few things when they are looking to sponsor someone.
1.) Is this person serious about competing, and competing for a while, not just a few shows, and not just for a year.
2.) Has this person already spent the money that is required to be successful? These companies don't want to just hand out free equipment to someone who doesn't have the money to even go to shows. they don't want to give someone their most expensive line of speakers if they won't know what to do with them. Most people out there honnestly don't believe that there is a difference between the Reference and the Perfects....
3.) Will you represent the company well? (I'm NOT saying this is you, I'm just saying what they look at) In the car audio world the average age of the consumers is 24, and male....us females are rather rare (something that I really hope to see change). 24 year old males, on the whole, are full of spit and fire and are ready to go off on the first person to question them. The companies DON'T want to sponsor that guy who is going to show up to the shows drunk, high, and ready to fight, then drive off and get a DWI while they have their product in their car, he brags about being sponsored by them, and has a bunch of their stickers on his car......as he gets pulled over for a DWI....or the guy that posts on the forums doing nothing but talking ****...
this is an EXTREME example, but I just wanted to get my point across
