    hey just a quick question:
what do i look for when buying a sub?
like i want it to be very very very um deep or loud (dont know the word)
so do i look at the size e.g. 12", or the watts, or what?
    thanks

how much money are you willing to spend?

what amp is going to be pushing this sub?

how much air space do you have to work with in your car?

all of these questions need to be answered...

then we can work from there...

money: about $200AU each. (thats if i have more than one)
amp: i dont know yet. can i buy that after the sub, or would that be dumb?
space: enough. ill be putting them in seperate sub boxes.

edit: im going to be powering the speakers through a 4 channel amp, then this through another.

whether a speaker booms or not has a little to do with the speaker its self, and a lot to do with the encoluse you put it in.

Honnestly, this question is like opening pandora's box...all kinds of ifs in there....

look for a sub that has a decent x-max rating (that's how far the speaker will move from one extreme to the other - in and out), look at the magnet sizem generally, a bigger magnet will mean a beefier speaker....this will give you a more solid SPL sub

BUT keep in mind, that a BOOMY sub will not sound as clean and crisp as a nonboomy sub...

    it's all a trade off

ok so just to get a estimate on good specs:

these are the ones i have wanting to by,
but they do not say the x-max.
they are around $100US and the magnet weight: 1800g (63.4 oz)

do you think they are good or what?

    thanks

i reccomend against kenwood, i dont think their stuff is high quality at all, seeing as you are in australia why dont you go to jb hi-fi and listen to the subs there, i bought my JL audio 12" W3v2 from there and i highly reccomend it

yer i have been looking at that exact model, and the W6v2!
i really like the reviews, but the cost for the w6v2 is a bit high!

well does the w3v2 give out alot of bass?
and how much did you pay for it?
    thanks

i paid 400 for my sub, i like pioneer, i believe its the best of the low end audio manufacturors here in aus, i install pioneer stuff in most of my friends cars, in terms of sound quality it dosent compete with companies like Jl, alpine etc, however i do believe their stuff to be good value from my own experience

before you purchase that sub you need to remember that the stuff sold on ebay could have been thrashed, and do you really need a 15" sub?

you can use a 4 channel amp to power 16 speakers if you want..lol depending on impedence and all that..my advice is REALLY STUDY AND SEARCH all of the ways speakers can be hooked up. find the speakers you want and than with that decide on your amp..or decide which amp you want and decide on your speakers from there..there are many kinds of amps and speakers for a reason..to accomidate(dunno if i spelled that right) whatever you want to do...just do a little research on it.
