do you have an ibm T42 by chance?
unmute the volume, max it out in all the important locations in the XP volume control, then zero it using your keyboard volume controls. that should max out your control pre out and mute the laptop speakers.
I have a bizarre problem, the laptop internal speakers keep playing music when I have the headphone jack in the headphone socket. I have a feeling the headphone socket is busted. But I still get music in the headphone and the internal speakers at the same time!
Is there a program to redirect Windows XP to change the line-in or Mic socket into the headphone socket?
That way I can ignore the headphones socket and use a line-in socket instead.
