    that's what I'm saying.

Those that i listed have done just that and have been INCREDIBLY successful.

Garys car right now, Gary Biggs, 7 time IASCA expert world champion, and at least 7 time USACI expert world champion currently has home drivers in his car.

Same with Rob Rice, and same with many of the Kicker team members.

Sometimes, you can actually come out better with home speakers in cars, than car speakers in cars. IMO, there are two main disadvantage of using home speakers in car.

    1. There are no 6x9's and 5x8's in home speakers.
    2. You will get less loudness using the same amps.

    That's about it.

#2 can be an advantage too, because it is related to the impedence and the damping factor. You stick home speakers to a car amp, you get twice damping factor than car speakers in a car amp. More impedence, Less load, cooler running amp, more control of cone movement etc etc etc.

Well. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but there are lot more than what the manufacturer says on their box and advertising materials (including magazine articles).

I am putting these home speakers in my car.

My tweeter (HIVI research TN28 $20 each)

My 6.5" Midrange (HIVI research M6N $45 each)

    My 12" Subwoofer (Dayton Audio 12" $130)

With active Xover/GEQ/PEQ/Delay using SB0350 with KX project.

I know. May be I'll fab something so I don't have to cover it up. That HIVI 6.5" M6N has really good off axis frequency response (which is important in car audio) may be the shape of parabolic cone has something to do with it.

I was originally thinking about this 6.5", but 30 deg off-axis frequency response wasn't too good for some reason.

Davis Audio Kevlar 6.5 inch ($90 each)

If I get something like this, I ain't gonna cover it up.

did you read the review about those tweets:

the North D2506-S seems like they would be a better choice, don't you think?

interesting little tidbit I learned recently regarding home speakers, THX theatre speakers specifically. Apparently to be THX certified they have to be 4ohm... this info came to me second-hand to it may not be gospel truth, but I did check M&K's website and all their THX speakers are indeed 4 ohm. Something to keep in mind anyways.

I find it highly interesting that they rated those tweeters as a poor performer overall....

any particular reason for wanting to go with those tweeters jasonsjwou?

There are set of bookshelf type Home Theater speakers called Swans 2.1. It uses the same tweeter/woofer combo. I actually listened to these before. They sounded really good for what it was worth. (I don't really give a damn about reviews, but they had really good reviews too) The TN28 is used by many more SWAN speakers, all with rave reviews. For Xover, 4th order LR at 2khz should be a good starting point.

    Here they are.

Another kit speaker that uses the same tweeter with different midrange.

I was aware of the ZAPHaudio site. That tweeter test result, while it is one form of indicator, does not really reflect tweeter performance in real application IMO. They tested all these tweeters without Xover and EQ and Filters. (Hey we should know better than that) They fed RAW signals and measured its frequency responsd and HD and etc.

In car application, I thought the shape of this tweeter gave me unique mounting freedom and good looks. They are cheap, unique, proven good sound (with appropriate tuning, but all speakers need them). The M6N woofer and TN28 has really good 30Deg off axis frequency response (which is important for Car audio) also.

    That's why I selected these.

If money no object, I could have gone with the ScanSpeak Revealator R2904 + 18W/4831 or Focal Utopia BE. For these, I'd need $1000 just for the front stage... I cannot justify spending that kind of money on Car Audio....

    very well!

That's what your needs and demands are, and it sounds like you've met your needs....you've qualified your decisions! btw - the Be will run you more than 1k for the front stage....

One quick question though, your comment about 'spending that kind of money on Car Audio'. Why? Are you one of the individuals out there that feels that it's pointless? For what reasons?

One of my favorite tweeters that I am using right now. Doesn't cost a small fortune at $28 ea and has a nice smooth feel to it. I could swear they are used in some older Sonus Faber home speakers. I believe these tweeters were also used in Eclipse and older Soundstream component sets but don't quote me on that.

If you like metal tweeters they offer in Aluminuim as well.

Edit: The Sonus Faber Grand piano center channel tweeter looks amazing like that tweeter.
