Yeah but the difference between the mp3 frequencies is compression of high and low frequencies.. you can defintely tell the diff..

I can get all the way through without missing a guess on the tone test, and can consistantly get to about -30dB on the tracy chapman song, i've got beyond there but on the song i'm just guessing past -30dB

This test shows most of us we need to take are audio systems to a proffessional and get them scoped. Unless you can get all the way through that test. The shop near me only charges 50 to 100 depending on how many amps and speakers you have. Not a bad deal to have my sound setup right the first time. I suppose i could by the meter they use and do it myself though. But i dont know what most the **** on that thing means

[QUOTE=mbuchman]True, not exactly the same deal here, but still sorta related./QUOTE]

I dont think I did so good, maybe average. Oh well.

The tone ones made the ringing in my ears get louder. I dont think I could have done any more than one pass through them, it just started to hurt

Went all the way on first go, using altech lansing basic headphones and onboard audio, you could tell within the first few bars where the distortion was, still think MP3's are cr@p.

to call mp3s crap period, not just certain bitrates mean you must have some $30,000 recording studio in your home that it makes that big a difference for it to be just crap. After a certain point on that test, no matter how car you got, all the samples sound almost identical, no matter how good your ears are. I dont see how a nicely encoded mp3 at the highest bitrate, 320kbs or whatever, can be called crap compared to the original cd. Yeah, if your that picky you could hear slight differences, but its not that big you can just call mp3s crap.

I already stated that I used my PC and basic headphones, yes I do have $15000 home Audio and as Red will note a full RF setup in my car (you know you love RF Red) but there was a clear difference between all the samples played on that test.

I always keep CD's in the car if I want to hear decent quality music, I do have 40Gb's of Mp3's for convenience but I am still waiting for a good quality compression algorithm to come out for music. If anyone knows of another good quality file compression, please let me know.

I do not want a flame war on this thread, but I needed to state my observations.

dont laugh, but non-drm wma has always been good to me. i ripped a couple cd's using wmp 9 a couple years ago. ripped to 128kbps wma and i can safely say they can easily compare to 192kbps mp3 or even 256kbps in some cases.
