Use any reputable speaker brands that produce 6" speakers (you might mean 6.5", they are more common).

the JL 6W0 is an awesome sub. I'm using it underneath my dash right now, and people usually wonder what it is that makes all that noise. The frequency response is good, and its quite accurate. It won't do the ultra-low frequencies (< 50) without distortion though, so if you're looking for something to bump rap/hip-hop w/, it probably won't do it for you.
Overall, i'm convinced its probably one of the best you can get.
Make sure you build a proper enclosure for it though. I haven't heard it in free-air, but i think it would suck (although i'm not a fan of free air subs in the first place).
And yeah, it's a 6.5" speaker.

Any of these are going to kick some serious ***. If you already have Quarts then you know good sound quality and these will give it to you. The focal being the nicest with prolly the least bass. the ED's being in the middle. And the Adire's claim a 60-70hz response. Thats what many people have there subs crossed at. Just make sure you have an 18 or 24 db per octave crossover on it and you wont have to worry about distortion cuz it wont be able to go below whatever frequency you set it at.
Or go to www.the12volt.com and learn how to build your own in-line crossover.
hope this is of some help
thanks guys, the above 4 sound good, think my choicede will depend on whats available in the uk. will the rear doors not act as an enclosure and if this is ok should i line them with some sound damping compound? thanks again

dont forget tangband 6" for a budget subwoofer, also DD ws6.5 for a low extending (in an enclosure) 6.5.
the rear door will definitely not act like an enclosure, although there will be at least *some* rear wave separation.
you can deaden if you wish, could help. chances are better than not itll help.
even if you can find a jl stay away from it as it is now a discontinued item and might sound a little sloppy next to the quarts. Id reccomend the focal 5 3/8 this thing is very impressive and will compliment the quarts nicely

That's ridiculous!!! The JL 6w0 is a GREAT speaker, and will stand up with ANY other small sub. Sloppy? That's all in the install. You can make any speaker sound bad. I've used the JL 6w0s in a number of installations, and they always play tight and strong. We have even surprised a lot of people with that 3 6w0 box they made, people think its at least a 10.
Kicker makes some great midbass speakers, the rmb6 and 8. Both will play extremely well to about 80hz, which should give you some oomph.
Why can't you fit an 8 or 10 in a little buildout ? Any of these subs are gonna need an enclosure, so get custom with it and figure out how to stuff in a 10...

I heard a car with six w0 powered by a jl 500/1. After hearing a previous dismal F-150 with a pair of these things on low power, I chuckled to myself as I got in.
I'm not saying it could compare to the output form a ported supersub, but ill be darned if the output wasnt insane and very low extending for a bunch of 6.5 inch speakers! it definitely turned around my opinion of the 6w0.
another benefit, the 6w0 will be one of the more reasonably priced speakers suggested, and most certainly capable of playing lower than any other driver that has been mentioned yet. (actually the tangband may give it a run for its money in both respects, but I would be the JL would still edge it out in LFE)
