Beat me to it. This is the stuff you want. It's better to buy stuff like this from industrial sites rather than specialty sites because the price will be sooo much less.

I looked online for that hair pile stuff, but I can't come up with anything. Is there any other name for it, or pretty much all carpet places reffer to it as "hair pile"

I do the purchasing at a company which makes parts for accoustic dampening for cars. We make mainly parts for in the engine bay.
A big part of our products are meant for Jaguar.

All depends on what you want to accomplish.
Sound reflection and sound absorption have a different principal and require different types of material.

For bulkhead liners (the application you are interested in) it's a matter of sound reflection as well as absorption. For the insulation you would require a heavy layer material (mass is of great importance), for the absorption you would require a kind of foam (with cavities so sound can intrude).
The best result would be if you put the foam on top of heavy layer material. And put the combination with the foam directed to engine in your engine bay.
This way the engine noise intrudes into the foam and is dampened. The remainder of noise is directed at the heavy layer, which reflects it back into the foam. The foam absorps once again and little noise is being brought back out again.

Very important! Pay attention to every hole where sounds can pass through. If you don't take care of these it has no use to insulate all the rest.
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

    Currently : Audi A6 - no install

Second install : VW Passat '97 CarPC
    First install : '87 Audi 80 CarPC

Is the stuff from mcmaster better than peal-n-seal? I've heard that peal-n-seal can smell for days, the mcmasters site says it is USDA approved for food contact.. Does that mean that any gasses it releases into your car on a hot day are not as bad for you?

Do you think the www.mcmaster.com, item# 9709T19 is better (or just as good) than Brown bread? It is a lot less expensive..

Peal n seal DOES NOT SMELL for more than a day. And even during the summers here in Tampa, FL. it NEVER smelled or came off.

Is this acoustic dampening stuff really worth the buy? I drive a Jeep, and road noise isn't too great sounding, would a layer of this material help enough for me to notice it? Would it make my aftermarket stero sound better?
