Thread: 6 channel or 5.1 amplifier?

Kind of a newbie question, but I'm bored. Stay the F*** away from Audiobahn. That's my 2 cents.

I'm not sure that there are a whole lot of amplifiers with optical inputs available for the car. Although Im sure if you look around the board you'll probably find some threads concentrating on digital amps.

The PG is probably the best choice you've got here, but why screw yourself with a cheap amp? Not only are you going to ruin the quality of your sound, but you're also not going to have something that will give you any longevity. Stick to the good stuff. You get what you pay for.

Also, amps with a ton of channels usually start to slack off in quality. You just can't get all the component for 5 or 6 channels into one amp. You might be better of spending your money on 2 or 4 channels now and saving up for the next 2 channels on a separate amp. You'll get a good quality amp now and a better set up in the long run.

I already have a 2 channel amp in my car,but don't know if it is any good,it was there since i bought my car and i don't know the model.So you think it should be better to buy a 4 channel one and keep my 2 channel amp?Will the battery able to power my carputer system and 2 amp too?I don't want to buy another battery.
the reason i wanted 6 channel was only for movies,so i could enjoy 5.1 sorround.
So which amp would you suggest?

Why are you using an external dsp?Isn't the audiotrak good enough?
And for the speaker what are you using?I'm thinking of replacing my car speaker with four 2 way kappa speaker from infinity,will they be good for the side channel?OR 3 way are better for that?No composite since is too much hassle.

1. audiotrak prodigy 7.1 is really good choice on the market. Most of Experts says it (and also m-audio sound cards) has more better sound for listening music than other sound cards today, and more clear sound even then Audigy2 platinum. It has Wolfson codecs, well known in world of hi-fi music.
Yes, base drivers of this card don't have DSP functions we need in car. Like delay for every channel. Alpine H701 do it, and do more other special things for sound in car. But some guys now programming software that will able processing sound like special car processors Pioneer and Alpine. Let's wait it up.
I think you should not use 2-ch amp you have now. Possible amp configuration for 7.1 are: 3(4) ch low power amp for center, back left, back right. 5 ch quality high power amp for right front, left front, rear left, rear right and rest 5 double power channel for subwoofer.

As for the amplifier for now i bought a swiss audio 6 ch smx6600(http://www.s-atics.com/carswissaudioamp..htm) off ebay as it was very cheap(131000 yen are 1,232.38 $,i bought it for 118 ) and i read somewhere that it was good.
Is it worth to do 7.1 on the car?I was aiming to 5.1 as i have a small car,a peugeut 106 sport,where does the 2 extra channel go?

i saw it, it has low profile disign for embedded systems, and has some little differences from audiotrak prodigy 7.1., not principial.
5.1 for your car is also very good! The amp have 6x100, so 4 channels you may put on front and rear. Rest 2 channels in bridge mode connect to sub. And 2 channel old amp, you may use for center, if it possible also in bridge mode.
