Question New sound system soon, need some help.

Alright guys, I recently posted here, got a little advice. This is what I decided on doing:

Pioneer 37000MP Head Unit [Already Ordered]
Pioneer 5.25" 2-Way's for front doors
Pioneer 6.50" 3-Way's for rear deck

I gave up on trying to find good bass producing speakers. I am just going to go ahead and get an amp and sub. This is really what I need the help on. I am pretty much so made up on what I wanna get, but I'm making sure it'll do fine w/you guys first =)

    (2) 12" Blaupunkt TSw1200
Speakers are rated at 200W RMS/600W Peak each.

    Boss Riot 850
Amp is rated at 425 RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms, so it'll be around 212W RMS going to each sub, which should be just about perfect.

I have been working on nmy box plans for about the last hour or so, I'll post em as soon as I'm done drawing them up on the computer =)
I'm also still debating if I should build a Bandpass enclosure, or save myself the trouble and build just simple Ported enclosures. Will the bandpass make that much of a difference on performance ?

Please any suggestions or comments on this setup. The Blaupunkt's I can get for a great deal, that's why I'm going with them. I'm looking for some nice booming bass, not too worried about people hearing it from 2mi away >.<, but if that happens no complains ;D lol

    Thanks.

boss equipment is generally garbage...but the reviews looked somewhat promising.

just build a ported box. bandpass has to be perfect or else it'll sound like ***.

Alright, yea I gathered that also from a few different reviews that the amp should be fine.

Also... Here are the plans to my box that I plan on building. Any ideas on improvements ? and if anyone could check my math that'd be great =)

Then he may as well also get an Eclipse deck, and Rainbo comps (or Boston if he cant find the Rainbows), and no cheaper than a PPI amp for sure...

A good suggestion would be something like a lower line RE or Adire sub, or maybe some RF subs in a ported box (not the best, but probably a little better).

Your dimensions do not include displacement of sub OR displacement of port, and I assume not wall thickness either. Wont change the overall response much, but just letting you know. And 2 inches is VERY small for a diameter of a port. If you just have a lot of 2" pipe, then go with 4 or so, and bump the tuneing frequency to 35 rather than 30hz (35 is typical anyway). That would give you 11.81" long ports, which would fit perfectly without needing a bend (remember about 3" clearance from back of box).

I didnt bother with any of the specs, so I dont know what the vent mach will be, but I would personally go with a 6" diameter port, and tune to 35, which would make it 25.47" long (need an elbo then), or maybe a 4" diameter port tuned to 35 might work (10.34" long). I assume the xmax probably isnt large enough to justify a 6" diameter, but at least do a few 2" ports or a 4" port. But lets just say that 1 10" RF HE sub had port noise with a 3" port (tuned to 35hz) and slightly flaired at the end. Not enough to hear it in the car I would think, but still, that was just a 10" sub, with a bigger port than yours, and it made noticeable noise when you are in the same room. But that box was from their manual, so like I said, I think the vent mach was too low to hear if it was in your trunk.

Yeah, I have a 1000Watt 4 channel Boss amp. The first 3 Subs that I had, it blew them out. Only later did I realize, it wasn't the amp blowing the subs, it was the box. once I threw the box in the garbage, I made my own box and bought myself 2 10" Lightning Audio Subs, and I have my front speakers amped up with the same amp. Have had this setup for about 2.5 years, not 1 hickup.

But, I had a 600Watt Boss AMP, that I paid $50 for, it was a complete POS. So basically, it all depends on which Boss amp you get. If you want to see the one that I got, it's on the 4th page of my Cardomain page in my sig.

    Peace,

    Rafster

Id scrap that whole design.if u want to go ported do a 10"X3" side port that runs a 3/4" mds baffle board down the back of the inside of the box.Find out what is the port size u need for the subs u have and just tune the length to that.If u need help IM or PM me.
As far as your speaker choice goed stay away from that sub,Blau is a good brand for HEAD UNITS AND COAXILS but subs.....thay suck.this is where u want to spend the most money,if I were u Id get some alpine typeS subs I have some in my wife's car and let me tell you thay sound better than some of the "so called HIGH END" stuff that I install for most ppl. Or if u want to go original get some PLANET AUDIO or FUSION subs.

Thank you so much guys =D

As far as the speakers, yea I'm not looking to spend much on this system. Only reason I'm doing it is if I can do it relatively low cost. The Blaupunkt's are normally around $70 /each, I am able to get em for $70 for two of em brand new. That's primarily why I am going to go with them. I have read a few things about them, most say as long as the box is built correctly they will sound just fine. I figured this too, with 212W RMS going to each one, they should pound pretty good.

With the box design, I am going for a goal of around ~2.0 Cubic Feet per speaker. With the ports, I read that for these speakers 1 port 2" in diameter and 3" long is what I should use. Apparently this isn't going to perform very well ?
Should I go with a bandpass box ? Or what ?

Chupacabra, I'll be IM'ing you on MSN soon probably ;D, lol.

Thanks again, anymore recommendations are very welcome =)

    ------- EDIT
Hey, I used some calculators on carstereo.com to figure out some measurements for my ports. mbuchman pretty much had these numbers up above too.
    I entered the following info:
    # of Drivers : 1
    Xmax : 5.6mm
Tuning Frequency: 35 Hz [Not sure what this is, got the number from mbuchman, someone explain further plz?]

    It spit out these results:
    Minimum Diameter : 3.7 In
Minimum Area : 10.74 In [Guessing this is the length]

Then I skipped down and did the next one, to calculate vent length.
    # of Ports : 1
Enclosure Volume : 2.0 Cubic Feet
    Tuning Freq. : 35 Hz
    Diameter : 4 in

Says it needs to be 10.9" long, I should be able to easily fit this into the plans for my box, I plan on modifying it quite a bit, I'll be posting it back up soon to get more suggestions on it.

Where can I find ports this size ? I can't find em anywhere on the internet, any ideas ?
