using the aux input on a Sony xplode head unit

I own a Sony CDX-MP40 and want to use the aux inputs with something else besides a sony cd changer or mini disc player (ie using an ipod without the stupid transmitter). But you cant since sony has that bus thing that needs to be told something is there so it will unmute the aux input. I have heard of boxes that will do this for you, but have had no luck finding them. Have any of you heard of such a thing or know of any mod I can do to use the aux inputs? Thanks

I have a Sony CDX-CA900X

From the manual:
The unit's AUX IN (external audio input) terminal on this unit is also used as the BUS AUDIO IN (audio input) terminal. You can listen to the sound from your car speakers by connecting optional *Sony* portable devices.

Note
If you connect an optional CD/MD unit, you cannot connect any portable devices and cannot select "AUX".

To activate auxiliary equipment in the music source display:
1. Press OFF
2. Press MENU
3. Press the UP or DOWN arrow until "AUX-A...off" appears.
4. Press the RIGHT arrow to select "AUX-A...on" appears.
5. Press MENU

Now, I haven't had to go through all of that because as soon as I disconnect my CD changer, I can select AUX as one of my sources.

*- I have played music on my iPaq and Ipod using this connection, so the "Sony portable devices" statement is just legalese.

I have a Sony Xplode CDX-F5700 and don't have any issue with the bus line. I use the aux in for the carputer and switch between sources like DRweside describes.

The AUX in also doubles as the bus in unit and says that if you have the CD/MD unit connected, you can't connect any portable devices and AUX won't appear in the display as a source.

To select the aux in, press "source" repeatedly to select "AUX".

Crap. Maybe I shouldn't have edited my whole post. Anyway, AUX In is one of the reasons why I stick with Sony HU's.

But there is a problem, my sony hu doesn't have a menu button! Is there a hidden menu or something i can get to to turn on the aux input? I would like to do that instead of buying something.

My menu button is on the remote for my Sony, otherwise try reading the manual to see if it mentions another way
