well there's the first problem - he's got a boat of a car, which means a boat load of cabbin space, which means it's not going to pressure worth a ****....

the subs are in his trunk, he's got a rather thick layer of insulation (sound deadening) seperating him from those subs.....read: back seat

cars don't ever sound as loud as hatchbacks or trucks because the driver doesn't share the same air space as the subs.....

4 gauge should be enough for that amp....

when he says that he wants it louder, what is he basing this off of?

is he saying this because he has heard other cars with the same set-up? is he one of those people who wants to be heard from a block away? (god, I hope not) just trying to figure out if he just needs more sub/amp or if he says he wants more because he just wants more?

He lost a sound competition for "all high-school" by about 3 dB. Just wants to improve it so he can come closer or hopefully 1st. What do you know about trunk porting? If he ported his trunk and dynomatted the whole inside of his trunk how effective would that be?

oh - so he lost some local show by 3 db and now he wants to be louder?

is he wanting to start competing? because if so, he needs to get out of the high-school game and realize that that 3 db will easily turn into 10+db in the real game....lol

matting the trunk wouldn't hurt, but it's a lot of money for not that much gain

he needs to focus on sealing off the car completely, which can be accomplished with matt, but again expensive.

there's a whole are to competing. There are a lot of little things that can be done that go beyond the subs/amp/box. Most people equate SPL with just those 3 things, truth is, a serious SPL vehicle (even if it's just for the street) will consider thse things second, after getting the basics out of the way....

like a head unit. If he's running some ghetto hu, he could do a lot to upgrade to one with a stronger signal....while this isn't critical, it can help....

what numbers did he hit btw? and who put on this 'show'? was it an official sanctioning body like USACi? dB Drag? SLAP? IASCA? what kind of meter were they using.

Unless he's serious about getting into this stuff, tell him he needs to realize that there is a lot more to just being loudest at your high school....lol

if he wants to impress he needs to get out of that cacoon and play with the big dogs (sorry, dawgs....lol)

First off, get a car that you can actually get SPL in. Secondly... the car isn't very becoming to 'sound levels'. He might need to fill the trunk with four subs, or go up to 15" if he just wants 'loud'..

As said, it can get expensive fast.
