    shopping for an amp

I'm having trouble deciding which amp to go with. I'm looking at some 4 channel amps, I'm thinking of going with Rockford Fosgate p8004, or similar orion, or phoenix gold, or kenwood. I don't know which to pick, I want something that will put out 4x100watt rms or a little more. Give me some advice. Don't want to spend more than $400. Thanks.

i think he is trying to say that they get really hot. Which isnt a good thing.

You shouldnt have any trouble finding a 4 channel amp for under 400. I would first pick out speakers though.

i think i'm gonna go with mb quarts. but i don't understand why mb quart rates their speakers in ranges like 50-100 watt rms, or 70-130 watt rms? what does that mean? 70 watt is the minimum needed to run the speakers? and 130 watt is the most they can take??

FWIW I've been very happy with my alpine amps. Very clean power.

When manufacturers list a RMS range like that it means exactally what it seems like ... they can be safely powerd with RMS in that range. There will be a different number for peak.

RMS is its constant working wattage. Peak is the most it can handle. Look out for Ohms becasue the higher that number the more resistant to wattage it is.
You can run a speaker at less wattage at risk of sound. Buy an amp that powers in the RMS range and doesnt excede your peak wattage.
