    choosing speakers

Which should I go with, Phoenix Gold, MB Quart, JL Audio, or Infinity? I'm leaning towards Phoenix Gold because of the price. MB Quarts are really expensive. thanks

listen to those speakers at a shop and pick what sounds good for you, it if was me i'd probably choose mb quartz or infinity depending on how much i wanna spend.

Remember there are heaps more speakers out there, focal and boston spring to mind, and its up to YOU what speakers you should get

How much are you looking to spend? Infinitys are a good choice and they arent very expensive.

I wish I had read this thread before I posted in the other one anyway Polk Audio is often overlooked for some reason and they are the best sounding speakers I have heard for many years now (they did for awhile have a quad laminate dome tweeter that sounded horrible but they have moved back to the tri laminate one). Personal prefrence is of the utmost importance here though just because myself or somebody else likes it or dislikes it does not mean you should listen to them, don't spend a dime on anything you have not heard and decided what you like and dislike.

hahahaha - polk being the best....hehehehehe

look, it's all on you....no one can tell you what speakers are the best for you and what you listen to! my ears tell me infinity, polk, PG and a few others out there don't hold a candle to focal....but I also demand a lot from my speakers and am willing to pay the additional money to get that additional performance....

which brings me to my next point....you say MBs are expensive....you need to also know, that in car audio, just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for.

honnestly, for someone like yourself, just abotu any speaker out there would do with teh price range that you appear to be looking at....but you can make the finial decidion by just listening to them yourself.....

take your own CD into the store and listen to all the speakers that you can...then make you decision based on what YOU like....not what joe schmo tells you on the internet....and yes, I am included in that joe schmoe.....lol

I will admit to two things here I rarely use "matched" tweeters and mid sets because I like the sound from different companys for different things with different crossover points than I can get from the factory, I would put the Polk Audio DB1000 tweeter up against anything, and that being said you are correct from an overall standpoint though, but they are also in a different price catagory the Polks are not.

P.S. Red I looked at your cardomain page you did a great job on the car (I know it was keeping you up wondering if I liked it ). Do you compete in sound q now or is this just a show car?

I know the speakers will be my choice, but I'm looking to get some generalized views on different brands of speakers. I don't know how I can hear every type of speaker, before I buy it, a lot of stores don't let you do that, ebay doesn't either, neither do any online stores I know of. Anyway, I'm thinking of MB Quart, anybody have experience with them?

Also. When you "car audio gurus" look at speaker specs, what do you look for that tells you it's a good speaker? Frequency Response? Nominal/max Power? Sensitivity?

compete...took a first at the regional in south padre which was the first show that the car in it's present state had attended...took first a a local show and first and best of show at a tripple point event in houston....planning on hitting up texas heat wave in July...we'll see how that one turns out!

there is not one magical spec that is a tell all... you have to look at all of them as a collective....I go with reputation as well....but I'm also looking in a completely differnet category than you,for me the reputation tells me a lot about whether to even bother looking at a company....

for your needs, sure, MB should work just fine
