    Adding subwoofer to 2ch output?

Hey everyone. I have a quick question. I want to get a sub-woofer that basically goes "BOOM". Yeah, I know not much. ;-)

I'm looking into getting the speaker/box from my brother or eBay, but I have 1 problem. Do I just throw one of my channels into each of the subs? Is there a way I can make it only react to the lower frequecnies (a capacitor or something?)

I want to be able to use this through the remaining channel on my amp (rear speakers are only using 1ch), with only 1 big ol' sub. Cost is a big issue for me. Should I just go get another amp for subs? And if so - how do I connect it to the car-puter? Can I just sue the standard channels with a splitter? I have no room for expansion (using an ePC), so the 2-channel audio is all I got.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Thats called a crossover or a filter. A lot of amps have a high pass or a low pass filter on each pair of channels, this ramps down and cuts the frequencies below (or above) the level you set on the dial. For a sub you want a low pass filter with the dial set somewhere below 300Hz (hard to be exact, depends on your other speakers, your car, you speaker etc)

I dread to think how you are getting your rear speakers from one channel of an amp- you dont like stereo I take it? While a sub would work from an unused channel you wouldnt be able to use any onboard filters, youd need a separate crossover. It would be best to get a dedicated amp for it.
