How do you know when your speakers are blown?

Is there an easy way to tell or test to see if a speaker is blown?

I think one of mine is starting to sound shady but I'm not sure if it's blown or if it's just me..

I dont know the "real" way to do it, but if it sounds like its farting, its blown.

It's hard to describe the sound but for large woofers instead of hearing "boom" when the bass kicks, it's more of and "baaaaaankkkkk".

    Few things I try are:

    1) Measure resistance, should be within nominal value.
    2) Gently press the cone inwards and then outwards and listen for any grating noise. This is a sign that the coil(s) have overheated.

You can develop an ear by listening to the same music in one car vs the next, or headphones vs your car. Its like listening for the MP3 compression in a low bit rate MP3, you know its there cuz something sounds different and just not quite right.

Best way is with an Ohm meter. A speakers impedance is nominal so the impedance should be close to the rated impedance of the driver. I have seen 4 ohm drivers that meter out at 3 to 5 ohms. Also you can smell the driver. A burnt voice coild gives off a nasty ordor that usually stays awhile.
