Thread: volume/bass amp question

Howdy all, I have done a quick search but not found anything.

I have had my carputer all set up and running nicely all this year, but have found the bass frequencies generally only kick in when the volume is at its highest, and not at 75% as such. When it's at 75% it sounds almost like a handheld radio. I have a software equalizer which is completely separate to the volume and therefore unaffected.

My current setup has the sound card volume choosable between 0% (mute) to 100% (absolute max soundcard output), which feeds to my amp which has its own volume control, constantly set at 30% as anything higher starts to cause issues with things shaking and such.

My possible future setup (pending debate) is to have the sound card outputting between 0% (mute) to 30% (which will appear as 0-100 to the driver), and having the amp turned up all the way. This has 2 possible results as far as I know, either it will be exactly the same as what I have right now (volume and bass), or given the amp has more power at its end, it may increase the speaker power at lower levels - or make it more accurate? Therefore giving it more consistent bass over the range.

Are my thoughts correct and I should go to the effort of trying it, or will it make no difference at all (or noticeably)? I'm open to any experiences people have had.
