How to connect to CD Changer

I have a Hyundai HU with 8 Pin DIN connector, labelled ( with my guesses for use):
    1- R (right sound probably)
2- CD ON ( signal to changer, or from changer??)
    3- BUS (purpose???)
    4- B+ (+12 Volts probably)
    5- M. Ground (see 8 - difference between M. and A. ???)
    6- NC ( not used)
    7- L (left sound probably)
    8- A. Ground (see 5)

I want to mate this either to a Panasonic CD changer - same DIN connector, very different labels, or probably better, to an MP3 input. I hooked up the DIN to the HU, but the button on the unit labelled CD Changer does nothing. I need to know what to connect so that the HU knows something's attached. Also, how about grounding for the L & R inputs. Would I just use one ground, and if so, M or A? Many thanks.

What you have is the wire harness for your car.

It takes all the wires every stereo needs, and puts them into a nice big plastic plug. Thing is, that plug only fits one thing, the stock head unit.

You need to buy the wire harness adapter thingy for your model car. It will plug into the plug from the car and then give you all the bare wires to hook into the bare wires you have with any head unit or cd changer etc.

I dont really understand your entire post so maybe you need to clarify.

If what you want is to replace the radio in your car with a new one, do what I said.

If you want to hook up a cd changer to your existing radio, you cant do that the way you describe. You need to use RF cd changers that use the radio in your car to transmit the CD changer instead of hard wires and direct control.

Sounds like your car had an OPTION to have a CD changer in it, thats what the button "labeled CD changer" was for. Not for ANY CD changer.

    Grounding L/R inputs? ummmm what?

    M or A? Again what?

VW's, audis, BMW's, and some others require an actual data stream to be fooled into detecting a CD changer. not too difficult to actually generate it with a microcontroller, but figuring out the data stream in the first place isn't so easy. the fact that there's a wire labeled "BUS" suggests there is some real communication going on there.

if you have (or can borrow) a CD changer that works with your car, and an oscilloscope, you can monitor the CD ON and BUS lines and see what's happening on them. but again, deciphering a data stream to the point of being able to create a fake one isn't generally an easy task.

that is all if you are going with MP3 input. if you are going to try to hook up the panasonic changer, then the data formats of the changer and the HU need to be compatible, and there's a very good chance they're not... in which case it's not going to work, even if you get all the right wires connected.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

I hope I can get this model connected to a PC via USB in late August. No cd changer, sorry. Panasonic may work but not sure right now.

[edit]It looks it is Sanyo or MBus. Will let you know when I have more info[/edit]

M Ground is a bus ground.
A ground likely is an Audio ground.

That type of plug is what is described as a "proprietary" system. Only the manufacture has the exclusive rights to that type of system. They are not inter-changeable with other manufactures, unless otherwise specified. It is possible to integrate such components, but it would be more time consuming than doing it the traditional way with your existing components, i.e. fm mod or direct with a compatible proprietary device. The more difficult deed to complete such a task is to be able to decode the 'bus' line you have. That is a data line that controls the compatible changer to your current device.
