Dear all
I am looking for 5.1 amplfiers that takes either optical of Coax input.
the one that had rave review, Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.1MT seemed to have stop production. anyone used it before?
second one i found is Hi-Fonics Zeus ZX 5.1
third one is Performance Teknique ICBM-5.1
Please comment on the above and feel free to add others that you felt worth some mentions.
thanks

that one won't work without their head unit.Originally Posted by Red GTi VR6
most of the 5.1 discussion use line level output to the amp. i am looking for toslink to the amp direct and hence need comments from people who has had it doe.

A good 4 chan amp and a good mono amp, do the decoding in the computer.

yeah - there's a reason most of the discussions are about using line level output to the amp...
there have been many people looking for the magical tos-link 5.1 amplifier...

ptk- is there a reason you don't like alpine headunits?
in my years of experience, i am still to find a HU i like the sound of better than an alpine. even their crappy decks (under $200) aren't that crappy, and sound better than any kenwood, blaupunkt, etc that i've ever heard. high end alpine decks are sick! built in crossovers, mp3, great design/layout. green or blue illumination.. unless that is, you own a vehicle with red gauges. wonderful sound quality, and high output voltage. what more could you want? i know- to each his own. this is my opinion, but there are facts to back most of this up!
nothing again alpine.Originally Posted by do7d

there is not many headunits that takes toslink directly. the alpine unit in question is a split headunit + amp (v12 series). the amp takes optical in, but won't work without the headunit...
and believe me, it'a ain't cheap
