    Stock speaker strength?

    I am going to be removing my stock headunit when i do my PC, I do not want to do all new speakers but i know I am going to have to do an amp since the previous stock head unit was acting as an amp. My question is, how do I know how big I can go on stock speakers, I know it is not much....but I would need a number before i buy anything, the car is a 1999 camaro z28 with the monsoon sound package

    i have done a little research for you, and if my findings are correct i don't think you will need an amp as the monsoon sound package is a 500 watt system. You will find the Monsoon amp and it's factory connections are located above the rear tire on the passenger side of the car hope this helps you. connect your sound card via a minijack to rca conector straight to your stock amp, no worries of blowing your speakers etc

    and in case the monsoon amp doesn't have rca inputs, metra, http://www.metraonline.com/ , makes good aftermarket -> stock equipment adapters.

    So....is the monsoon amp in the GMs comparable to the VW monsoon, at least as far as wiring and such? Anyone know?

    Plain and simple:

    Monsoon = waste of money
    monsoon - underpowered
    monsooN / something to eBay and get cash to buy something better.

    Whatever the rating you find for it to match speakers with, will probably be good. But alas, its a piece of **** amp, nothing good to note about it. Other than ALOT of people have them because it was "an option for $1000, must be DAMN good says the dealership"

    Yeah, I know, everyone says it. I bought my car used so I didn't make the original decision, but its what I'm stuck with....and its a wonder my wife let me proceed with this project....replacing the whole sound system would be pushing it.

    Thanks STE, I had done digging to and it seemed like they were both made by Delco, but it wasn't really explicity stated anywhere. I had that diagram already too, it doesn't help until I figure out some other stuff like feeding a 5v signal into the amp somehow. Its why I was asking because the GM monsoon people don't seem to mention having such a problem with this. Go figure.
