Advice on hooking up amp to stereo harness - possible?

Ok, so I have the computer in the van and currently the power to the M1-ATX is going through the stereo harness in-dash. Because I have a van, I can fit the 12.1" LCD, the whole computer, and also an amplifier in-dash, so I don't have to run wires all the way to the back or underneath the seat like many people have to do to install an amplifier in an out-of-sight location.

I've searched the forum but can't find an answer, so maybe you guys can help:

Since my amp will be like 2 feet away from the stereo harness, could I take the audio output from the amp and go through the stereo harness to get to the speakers instead of having to run wire everywhere? Also, is it possible to power the amp through the harness as well or would it not provide enough current from those small wires?

I know a lot about the mechanical portion of a car, but have never messed with car audio before, so excuse my ignorance in this area.

Currently, I have an M1-ATX power supply for the computer, but I haven't picked up an amp yet, so I can't list a particular model number. Also, if anyone could recommend a decent quality for decent price amplifier I would appreciate that as well.

    Thanks,

    99Bravada.

if your amps out put power is not really large say 40-60watts rms per ch should be able to travel just fine across your factory wire harness but the power to the amp is in accordance with the size of you amp ..never hurts to over size the power wires pos..and ground just dont over size your fuses and dont forget amps make lots of heat so think of cooling in your install location

    Thanks...

I may end up running some heavier gauge wires through the firewall, but it all depends on what kind of amp I end up with. I'm basically going for a high-end factory sound, so nothing spectacular. I may even end up grabbing a Monsoon amp from a newer-style trans am... I saw one for just a few bucks on ebay.
