Sound Card Problem - READ FAQS and still problem

I have the USB Sound Blaster Live 24-bit the non audigy series seemed like a good deal at best buy for only 60 bucks.

I have a problem with the volume sometimes on bootup I have to turn wav to 100% and master to 100% just to barely have a low volume level. Then other times a 15% volume on master and a 100% for the wav sounds normal and great.

I don't know why it sounds low sometimes and sometimes fine I have checked my connections.

The amp I am using is a JL Audio 300/4 and I know its fine becuase the onboard sound card I was using before didn't do this so I don't know what to do at this point.

Can someone help me out thanks

I just felt my amp and it felt too hot to touch as well as the grounding point.

    Still no replies

Could be a dodgy 3.5mm plug connection.
Use to happen to me all the time, if i nudged the headphone jack, like pulled it to one side it would work fine, but when i left it normal it would go really low volumes or i would get distortion.

I brought a half decent cable and it fixed the problem.

I am thinkin it might be a poor ground. The threads of the bolt touch bard metal but the bracket that touches the chasis touches paint i just figured it would be fine since the threaded bolt touched bare metal.

Will try that and report back

Nothing changed from sanding more to where i now see bare metal. The sound still plays at low volumes sometimes and sometimes full volume. The odd thing is that the sub always plays loud its just the 4 channel amp that has the problem so I think its my amp.

Maybe the sound card isn't pushin out enough watts for it ?

Its a USB creative sound blaster live 24-bit.

The amps are JL Audio 300/4 - Speakers
    JL Audio 500/1 - Subs

    Let me know thanks

Just so you know. I run a JL 300/4 in my car and after lots of loud music playing you can hardly touch it with your hands.

They are a really hot amp, just in their nature.

However, can you report if any of the other lights on the 4 channel are lighting up when the volume changes by itself?

Also, try plugging in an MP3 player or IPOD. If we can take the computer out of the equation we can determine if it is the amp or something else.

All lights are good when it happens. It has the front and rear rcas plugged in so if one was bad at least the other one would work I have checked the connections they are all firmly connected I don't know what else to think now...
