or, depending on what the converter's power draw is, just use power from the 5v rail of your computer's psu (red wire on a standard molex connector).

Thanks for the info. Let me describe why I need the PS for 5V DC input. I don't have a car pc. However, I do have an Audiobahn ADD51T (DSP) connected to the factory HU. Additionally, I have connected an Audiovox AVD400 dvd player to the DSP digitally via SPDIF coaxial and through analog inputs. My problem is that the DSP does not recognize the SPDIF input from the Audiovox...plays exceptionally good sound fed through the analog inputs. I know that the DSP is good because it recognizes digital input from another DVD player (BOSS 2900T). Also, my home theater receiver recognizes the Audiovox digital input so the DVD player is not (completely) at fault! The main issue is that somehow the voltage put out by the Audiovox SPDIF is not compatible with the Audiobahn DSP. I then came across a thread somewhere advising to use an optical input to get rid of such issue with the coaxial. This is what I want to try. Buy a coaxial to optical convertor (cheap like 16 bucks or so) and then install it permanently (connected to 12V DC power line) if it resolves the problem. Based on what I have read these coaxial to optical convertors run on 5V DC and come with AC adaptor. However, I want a DC/DC adaptor (12V to 5V) that hopefully does not cost too much. Is there one that can bought (or built) for like 10 bucks or so?
