There is a good DIY guide for 2003-2005 corollas, but front speakers are the same
here it is:

So I take off the front door of my new 2005 matrix, and I see this (see attachment).
First off, can I assume the speakers in the rear car doors are the same size (5.5 inches not counting the cardboard tube they're in, 6.5 inches including the cardboard) ?
Secondly, how the @#$! do I get those speakers out? Those metal things around the cardboard aren't screws, they're pins of some sort, no way to get'em out... ?
Lastly, anyone wanna recommend some decent speakers to put in these 4 doors?
Many thanks!

yeah that's cool, but are the rears the same? Anyone know this for sure?
.. and can I put 2ohm Infinity 62.7 kappas in, if i'm using a JVC MP3 deck? I thought car speakers were 4ohms, not sure what difference this makes
1. Those are rivets. The only way to get the speaker out is either:
A) Drill out the rivets
B) Rip the existing speaker apart (pull the cone out) and use it to mount the new speaker in.
If you do A then you're going to need to get spacers to be able to fit any sort of speaker in the front door, because otherwise you'll have about half an inch of clearance for the window.
2. The rear speakers are mounted the same way. Just drill out the rivets and mount the new speaker directly to the door. Works fine.
3. Pretty much any 6.5" speaker will fit in either front or back. In the front you need to worry about rear clearance. You can bypass this by cutting out the stock grill in the door panel and mounting the speaker to the plastic panel.
4. No way. Headunits are designed to run on 4 Ohm speakers ONLY. Hooking up 2 Ohms will either destroy the amplifier in the headunit or cause it to not work at all. If you want to use 2 Ohm speakers, get an external amp to run with the headunit.
Xaphod, I noticed you're on genvibe.
Hopefully all your questions can be answered at this link:

Also, a number of matrix/vibe owners like the infinity kappa's.
Do a search on matrixowners.com and genvibe for kappa
and you'll see what I mean.
Good luck.
C-me,
Tim.
