Need Help, Very Very annoying problem.

OK guys well I put a system in my sisters car. It has 1 10" Kicker L7 with 2 amps. 1 is a PG Octane 500w and the other is an Autotek 75x4. Maybe a little over a year and a half ago i installed it. But for a while now whenever she is listening to her music the music goes out and it will come back within a few seconds. But as time progressed it took longer and longer for the music to come back. At that point, I checked all my fuses my grounds my power and everything was fine!. But just recently It rarely ever turns on. Basically the amps are not turning on. So I came to a conclusion that it had to be her remote line connected to the radio!. Wait....I even replace her headunit!. So today I changed her remote line. I connected it to the amps and the other end i tapped into her fuse panel. She says it is working better but it is still shutting off every couple of mins.! Can someone give me some pointers on what it can possibly be......

What's "every couple" of minutes? Is the amount of time it stays off AND on consistent? Try testing each amp individually and if both are having the same problem, then I would triplecheck the power and audio lines.

Does one amp feed the audio signal to the other? If the producer turns off, then the consumer won't have an audio signal to reproduce... You need to give us a little more info.

YEs it is very consistent. THe 4ch amp is the main amp and then the audio signal and remote it sent to the PG sub amp.

It sounds like you had 2 problems, the initial problem you still have, and then you also developed a loose connection on the remote line which you have now resolved. My first guess is the x4 amp has a poor connection inside, or a blown component such as a capacitor. I've seen cases where a connection is loose but works initially, but the poor connection generates heat which causes the metal to move, completely breaking the connection. Since there is no connection, it cools down and the connection is restored, starting the whole process over again.

    Short answer is yes.

The four channel amp is PROBABLY overheating triggering the thermal protection circuitry. When the temperature comes back down to within normal operating specs, then it turns back on.

I had a similar problem with an older MTX Thunder amp.. it turns on for five minutes then it'll shut down...I had to wait like 3 mins before I could turn it ON again.. then the same thing would happen. Turns out it was the REM line not having sufficient voltage to power the two amps and an EQ that I had. (it only had 200mA output) I wired up a relay and I never had the same problem again.
