Speaker popping / thump on sound startup

Finally connected my bass speakers to my soundcards bass output

I get no thump at switch on or off as I have the amp remote line connected to the pc's psu 12v out.

Problem is I get a large thump when any music outpur starts, IE winamp / media player power dvd, windows system sounds.

As the sound starts the speaker gets 'sucked in'to the cabinet, and when music stops / media player quits the speaker tries to escape the box, its really bad to look at, two large speakers on a 520w amp wanting to go solo....

Soundcard is a cmi 8738 based clone in 5.1 channel mode, card has full set of jacks IE line in - mic in - front line out - rear line out - bass/centre out.
Useing zoltrix ng180 drivers (different drivers but 8738 card)

No probem with line out on front or rear, just the bass

Just a thought, on cards that dont have 5 jack sockets, the Mic and line in probably share a socket with something else.

I think on SB 1024 the rear out socket was line in, so you could have 4 channel and no line in, or 2 channels and a line in.

IF the smaller cards have option for 6 channels with no mic, then maybe the mic shares a socket with the bass, which would explain why it has a DC offset, for the mic to run on.

Most sound cards supply the mic socket with a small voltage for electrec mic elements to work.

Maybe thats what is happening here to mine, when its not playing sound, its enableing the mic in on the bass socket even though it has a seperate dedicated mic socket.

One for the scope/multimeter in the morning.
