are there any radio tuners that you can connect an external antenna (IE your car antenna) to?
i have a hauppage wintv usb 2 TV/radio tuner, and its horrible. DOesn't work with Windows Media CEnter, and they suggest I use their Radio32 application which doesn't work with a touchscreen. The buttons are tiny.
I want to replace this hauppage stuff.
What USB alternatives are there for getting radio, especially that work with Media Center Edition?
are there any radio tuners that you can connect an external antenna (IE your car antenna) to?

That’s the holy grail my friend. Nothing is really good right now in terms of good radio reception and a good antenna interface. Things are in the works just be patient. Good things are on the way.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't checked if this product was discussed before, so my apologies if it was
I've found something like this a while ago when I was searching for carpc components.
You can find the product's page here:
http://www.radio-xtreme.com/
For people in Europe wanting to buy one you might want to check out
www.modguru.nl (dutch webshop, is apparently mostly in Dutch though)
A quick scan over the specs reveals that it comes bundled with Radiator, the remote control that comes with the device is programmable and the tuner is a digital one.
I don't have any technical knowhow on these things and I haven't ordered one yet, so I can't talk about the quality.
Once I've ordered, received, installed and tested it, I will give a quick review. (might take a week or two)
Maybe if anyone with some knowledge of these things can look at the specs and let us know what he thinks about it, I would really appreciate it![]()
Ive got some D-link USB radio, the app that comes with it is decent, bigger butons, etc. My old *** dlink has a RCA connector right on it, I havnt put it in my car yet, but past uses it worked pretty decent, I just soldered some decent coax on an RCA end, it worked great.
MORE COWBELL.
Okay, brainstorming time... My car came with this little 2"-3" deep radio reciever and separate tape deck. It has factory harness outputs and a car antenna in connector. I know my electronics and all that jazz but i was wondering if there was someone else out there that has a bit more electronics engineering experience than i do and thinks that they could fabricate other radio recievers similair to this to be compatible with a carputer. I ahve not had the chance to take the radio apart but since it powered the interior speakers when the car was stock i'd imagine it has a built in amplifier. Would there be a way to eliminate this amplifier and run the direct radio output to the carputer and still maintain the external radio controls? I want to eliminate my alpine head unit but still want a good radio. I'd imagine i could just add a connector and pass the radio signal throuh the line in, or maybe even if there was a way to connect it via USB? But id imagine someone would need to develop a driver for that. If you have any thoughts on this please post =)
I saw this one on a Mac PC its called the radio SHARK from griffin. Its USB no extenal PSU and has an antenna jack. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/radioshark/
