Ill reexplain the story , paypal said i was doing illegal thingies and locked my aco**** (didnt close it) , i send them emails saying i dont do illegal thingies , so they reopen the account , than I send money to mister laptop , and a few days later to mister pc , and 1 day after i send mister pc his money , paypal closes my account saying i do illegal thingies, i send emails saying i dont do illegal thingies and they say they dont want me as a customer anymore. Mister pc didnt have time to accept the 300 or so dollars i sent him , and i couldnt get back my money because my account was closed, so paypal stole me that.

And now mister laptop as his money , my "laptop" , my pm's , my emails . But he comes on the forum and doesnt answer to the pm's and he doesnt answer to the emails....

Hd to read that a few tims to straighten out the two people, mr pc and mr laptop.. Wow so PP sotole $300 and the laptop guy a feew hundred.

I'd be doing ome serious *****ing to paypal (I have the phone number of a personal 'account manager' - not the regular customer service - cause I used to do like 50K in sales per month on eBay, if you think it'd help) and hunt down the laptop guy.. =/

I still look at the Ipods but I keep coming to the realisation that I will be spending $369 on a 60GB mp3 player that will not even hold half my music. But I get the ultimate poratability with that (especially personal portability). But it is to much money. You can buy a low grade computer for that price.

I have been going back and forth on this xbox thing. It is exactly what I need but even the cost of that route will still cost more then it should. (Xbox ~$50 if lucky, remote $25, chip $30, and I don't even want to think about the monitor to control it). So I am kind of in the middle on that.

Now something else I could do. I have a really really old laptop. Toshiba Satellite that has a Pentium processor and ~900 MB hard drive (it is in top notch shape, have everything for it, manuals, box, cables, etc.). But it is very old and it runs Windows 3.1. Any suggestions on what I could do with that? I was thinking a very small Linux distro but I have no experience with it. I would then hook up an external 250GB hard drive to it. But wait, I don't believe it has USB. So there is another uh-oh. Maybe I could upgrade the HDD but did they use the same 2.5" laptop drives that we use today? But that would give me a maximum 100-120GB if they do use the same size drive. I know that Windows 3.1 will not recognize a drive that big (I think?). But maybe if I can get this to work, it will be perfect. At least for now, until I learn more and have a bigger income.

    Any comments appreciated.

If you gothe XBox route, don't buy a modchip, do a softmod (software modification = free).

If you go the laptop route, upgrade it to Windows 98SE, get a PCMCIA USB card, and add an USB External drive.

Didn't even think about the PCMCIA slot. Thanks for the advice.

100 GB of MP3's in my car???

Anyone got any ideas? How would you take all that music with you on the road?

When I started this thread 6 years ago two things happened - 1) it became obvious there was no really good way to have 100 GB of MP3's in the car, and 2) a philosophical debate broke out - does one really need 100 GB of music in the car?

These days 160 GB Ipods are available and most car head units provide link capabilities to browse and play your music using your radio controls right out of your Ipod ID3 tags included. So even for the common person it's now completely feasible to put over 100 GB of music in your car. And if you can why wouldn't you? It's not even a philosophical question. Just plug it in and you're good to go. That is if you're happy to use an Ipod and not have access to even more music. Which, on this site at least I would guess, is not how most of us would do it.

So it turned out that the answer for me was two things - a smartphone and a home media server. No installation or hook ups necessary with bluetooth, and I have access to my 1 TB music library which I can browse and search easily. I keep a 64 GB jumpdrive plugged into my HU, and I have a 32 GB MicroSD in my smartphone with things I listen to all the time, but the ability to listen to anything I have in my library including my favourite webradio stations, wherever I have wireless signal is amazing.

The technical problem has been solved so it's completely easy to not have to hear the same song twice in a year. Or even 10 years. But is there still a philosophical question? Hmmmm... Lossy MP3's or FLAC - can you hear the difference in the car?

I'm interested in your thought process here... Did you just remember this thread and decide to add to it, or has this been haunting your thoughts/on your mind over the last six years?
