Yeah, I get what your saying now, and I bet that looks good. Especially with a nice rim covering it.

dude.. i run 2 X 12" kicker subs and i got my pc under them.. wrap the case in foam if you need shock protection.

Hmm... I had foam under my computer, "trying to absorb shock" since it was mounted at the worse possible location: over my rear wheel.... Got a good amount of freezes over potholes... (mounted horizontal HD)

Then I changed the harddrive to vertical... about 80% improvement...

now I bolted the carpc strongly to the car itself, no more "lag" movement, it is completely solid... not one crash/skip in 2 weeks...

If you have it bolted on, the sub might be vibrating the air around it, but the HD/carpc is not going to move at all (I really dont think that the vibration will be able to get through the HD casing and such) since it is bolted...

If you put it on foam or whatever, it will not be 100% solid, and will vibrate as well as the air around your subs = worse...

so IMHO all this "foam it up", "it will be crap if you bolt it to the car", yada yada, is all non-true speculation... at first through, foam should "cushion the sub-pounding", but it is best to have the carpc bolted without independent movement from the car (the sub isnt pounding the entire car so there will be less movement by bolting it strongly to the car)

The thing is...my subs are punding the entire car (especially the trunk), but I see what your saying about bolting it being better...I think ill try and find room on one of the sides of the trunk and maybe bolt it onto there after dynamating the surroundings so that the wall itself isnt vibrating as much...thanks for all the input guys...ill post pics when i get the chance

Yeah, you could try to put a "foam barrier" to dampen the vibration before it reaches the carpc, but I wouldnt put the computer itself on foam..

be very careful when "dampening" stuff around the carpc so you dont end up putting insulation that would make it worse to cool the pc...

my experience over the last 2 years during which i had the same laptop in my car.

    - my shocks are really really bad and bumpy. the carputer survived it with no complains. its an ibm 6gb laptop hdd and it is mounted vertically with soft foam on all ends of the car and trust me, it survived so far.

So I guess the conclusion would be that bass doesn't affect the pc...
