    Creative knob story

OK dont know how it happened, but my son borrowed the car and when I looked one of the volume knobs off of my Audigy 2 NX was gone, REALLY gone, I think one of his buds must have flung the thing by mistake attached itself to him or something.

    Anyway I emailed Creative Labs:

OK the 2 knobs on the Audigy 2 NX one for sound(volume) the other is for Mic the clips broke so the knobs are useless. All i have is 2 slots that I use my finger to rotate them.

Is it possible to get the two knobs shipped? They are silver in colour.
    I REALLY don't
want to send the whole unit back just to have the knobs replaced.

    Response:

Thank you for contacting us at Creative Technical Support; we appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

I understand you are looking for a replacement for the knobs on the soundcard.

I'm sorry but we would not be able to send you replacement parts. You would need to send in the soundcard for replacing the knobs.

If possible, try exchanging the product for another from the vendor for this will be much quicker and easier than having an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) issued. If this is not possible, an RMA will need to be arranged to have your product repaired/replaced.

Since physical damage has been inflicted on the product, an out-of-warranty RMA may need to be issued. This type of RMA requires a
$24.95 diagnostics and handling fee. The fee is applied toward the complete cost of repair/replacement. If the cost of the repair/replacement exceeds the initial diagnostic fee, the RMA facility will contact you via telephone to obtain your authorization for finance of the remaining fee.

Please submit the following required information to us in a reply to this message so the RMA can be issued:

    First/Last Name:

    Address (No P.O. Boxes please):

    City:

    State/Province:

    ZIP/Postal Code:

    Contact Telephone Number(s):

Email address where you would prefer to be reached:

    Product Model Number:

    Product Serial Number:

    Exact/Approximate Date of Purchase:

    Brief Description of Problem:

Once this information is applied to the RMA database, we will reply to you with an RMA reference number and shipping instructions.

    Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

the point is you cant order a baggie with 2 knobs in it. the knobs are probably worth no more than 5 bucks, and they want 25 just to look at it, then charge you extra for the parts, etc.

    that is absolutely ridiculous.

try calling them, and ask to speak to a manager. im sure they can work something out for you. the threat of never buying another creative product ever again, and slandering their name to all your peers is pretty good incentive to charge you 5 bucks and ship some fricken plastic knobs.

alternatly, check ebay, etc for either knobs or broken units.

    no its not ridiculous.

how much an hour do they pay staff to do job xyz?

while they are sorting out a problem caused by you/yours, said staff are not doing xyz but getting paid, thats costing creative money to fix your problem, why should they not want to cover their loss etc.

Now before anybody shouts profits of the company, if they did all these silly little repairs for free they would have a shedload of free repairs to do and be bust in a month.

no, $25 for 2 $1 knobs and a guys wage for an hour while he sorts it, good deal to me.

I dont know how much your soundcard cost, thats not a factor, but if it was than $25 buy another.

This was back in November, so I guess it's been resolved by now but...

I think one of your sons' buddies should have coughed up the $25, a pretty cheap lesson in responsibility really.

yeah, seriously, or bought you another one. Your son, as host, is responsible, not his friends. Do what Creative said, if you can. Returning to the vendor is a great solution. If neccessary, buy another one and return it in its stead. Of you can buy another one at your fav store and get their crappy protection plans and have your son pay for it. I'll teach him not to let his friends get away next time.
