See if any of this helps: FAQ: Getting Rid of that Whine or Buzzing Noise in Your Speakers
My carPC setup seems to be very noisy, particularly when the PC is booting up and before Windows comes online. There is a high-pitch whine in the background and I can hear my HDD accessing through the speakers.
When Windows comes online the noise diminishes, but it is still present. I'm assuming this is a grounding problem (my amplifier is in the trunk and my carPC is toward the front of the car).
Using a voltmeter I have determined that there is a small voltage (~1-2 volts) between the grounds of my RCA cables and a grounding point at the front of the car.
My question is: If I short the grounds of my RCA cables to the grounding point up front, with this help to eliminate some of my noise?
