The amp doesn't have a gain control, just a volume control, it's at about half. I have the volume on the PC turned up pretty high to try and compensate, and I suppose the EPIA's background noise isn't that bad.

Start the engine and it's a different story though, the noises you get then are just as loud as the music.

So I guess ground loop isolator to fix that noise, and then an external sound card to sort out the rest of the noise?

Can you get USB soundcards with a 4v line-out?

yesh - I think a few people have had luck with the sound blasters as well as others...

now that I think about it I think the sound blasters put out 2v....but I thought I rememberd one card putting out 4v??

    m-audio maybe?

maybe someone else could chime in on this one

Hmm, I'd love to know which card puts out 4v.

Had a look at the M-Audio cards, they look nice but it doesn't give that particular piece of information. Though the Revolution 5.1 card would be nice in my media PC

Whichever card I end up getting needs to be USB (or firewire)) and able to operate in 4ch and 4.1ch modes as I don't intend on fitting a centre speaker (but may fit a subwoofer in the future)

Edit: I'm wondering if half the problem is just because my car is an inherently noisy design, for example when I use the electric folding mirrors it causes crackes to come through the FM radio on a standard headunit, and also triggers my laser detector o_O

Got a ground loop supressor (Autoleads one) and it seems to work, interestingly it's also got rid of the background noise from the M10000 that is present even when the engine is off.

Was nearly very upset when I first tried it, revved to 2000 RPM and could hear a whining noise, thought I still had problems, then I remembered that the first turbo on the B4 kicks in at around that speed and that was what I was hearing (confirmed by unplugging amp)

Where did you add that ground loop suppressor? Just on your SPDIF out from the epia?

I don't own any digital amplifierrs? They're not exactly cheap and I'm a lot lower on funds than when I started this project.

Was just curious as you seem to be in the know on car audio, wondered why you resorted to analog... Ive been on analog for quite sometime, untill recently im trying digital...
