I am using a Chrysler 300 and I am researching in-car PCs. I am a little confused with how I go about hooking up the audio from the computer to the existing speakers. I am not looking at upgrading any factory audio if possible.
So my question is, can I use my existing head unit? If so, how would I go about hooking up my computer to the factory kit? If not possible and if I need an aftermarket headunit, do I just have the wiring from computer out ==> headunit in ==> speakers?
Thank you for your help.
I am using a brand new 2005 Chrysler and need it to be retrofitted ASAP.
I see that one person can hook up an amplifier directly to a computer, and then wire the amp directly to the speakers. I understand this concept, a great alternative to my situation. And just for stupid clarification which I think I already know the answer -- if I were to do that, would the stock head unit be out of service until the speakers are wired back up to the factory HU?
I am going to custom build a touch screen monitor into the arm rest of the 300 with some sort of protection barrier above it, so when the driver/passenger puts arm on the arm rest, it will not interfere with operation.
Sounds good so far?
You can get an aftermarket headunit, with aux in that will do this for you.Originally Posted by mikemccoy
Also, how do you expect to use the touchscreen if you have something over it to protect it??

The whole point is to NOT need an aftermarket headunit. If that means not using it, then fine. We are going to have a sliding plexiglass cover over it, so obviously when the driver wants to use the touch screen, slide off, use, slide back on. Get it? =) We might use a spring-type of plexi-setup, not sure what route yet. Going to run cables through the inside of arm rest, down, to back of trunk where comptuer is located.Originally Posted by Wiredwrx
