If you have HU connect the PC output to its aux in and you can use hte HU to control the volume.
Without HU:
1. With DSP: some DSP have volume control so you can use that
2. Amp with wired remote gain control: you can use this as an alternative but be careful not to push it too high as this is not the same as the volume control but in can serve the same purpose.
3. No choice but use the volume control on the PC
does the Alpine PXA-H701 have a remote volume control and if so picture please

As I understood, PXA-H701 itself doesn't have volume control button. You need to buy PXA-C701 control unit, which controls PXA-H701! Red_GTi_VR6 already posted link to pictures of PXA-C701

The amp gain should be set only when initially tuning your system, and NEVER touched after that. Turning it either too low or too high will cause distortion and that defeats the purpose of using it as a volume control. Aside from using the headunit's aux in...there are only four viable options:Originally Posted by m1c4a37
1. Pre-processor with a control unit that feeds your amps...like an external equalizer or DSP
2. Steering wheel controls...quite a few people have managed to get their steering wheel controls to work with windows (works great until the passenger wants to higher/lower the volume)
3. Configure a usb device to control windows' volume (such as Powermate)
4. Use a front end with volume controls on every page, so that it will be easier to use your touch screen to control volume
