Yes, in the uk. My UK PC kicks out a digital picture (DVI). It is superior to analog (VGA). The console devkit sat on my desk at work kicks out a digital picture (HDMI). It is superior to analog (scart).
I feel you have compression mixed up witgh digital. Digital does not necessarily imply compression.

    Best Sound Card

I am a true fan of Creative Labs.
I am using a 2.2ghz toshiba laptop for my carputer.
I will be using no HU, so audio card will provide sounds for movies, music and mic input will be used as the bluetooth phone.
    My first question is:
How noticable is the difference between Audigy and X-fi?
I could get something like MAGMA's 1 Slot CardBus to PCI Expansion System to connect PCI to laptop. Is it worth it?

Otherwize what are PROS/CONS to using either:
    AUDIGY 2 NX
    or
    AUDIGY 2 ZX Notebook

Thanks a lot for your help,
    t.

Or maybe even go with Creative LIVE 5.1? I have had one in my pc for last 6 years and it works great, that would be a bargain.
    Let me know,

I would first want to know what the quality of your stereo components are before worrying too much about the quality of your sound card.

if you guys do some research on the cheapy sb live 5.1 card paired with the kxproject drivers you'll find that a lot of people find that card hard to beat for the price.

as far as the picture quality comment. I invite you to come down to where i work and tell me that our final images are better or worse then analog. You can't tell a difference of a 4k digital frame unless you are projecting it on an imax sized screen. Then you just bump up the renders to 8k and problem is solved. plus...99% of the moving analog images that you do see have gone through some digital processing. Also Analog film isn't as true to reality as digital, but it's what we have been conditioned to think looks right. I'm not saying that i like the look of digital better, but you can't say outright that analog is better.

I like the cmedia chipset, it seemed best of all the budget cards, but also the 'front end' bolted on afterwards makes a difference, its only a few resistors and caps but can make or break the curve.

I cant hear that much difference, but can hear upto 21k, and yes tv's do drive me nuts if the windings are loose.

I /know/ vinly sounds better than audio, I can hear it, I know analog TV transmissions (in good signal strength areas) are better to look at than digital, but problem now is all the editing/mastering and feeds to the TX towers are digital.

But as for the soundcard issue, I tried the cheapys and the mid range and found nothing to shout about between them.

maybe if I tried a 100+ card I would hear it, or think I could, because it cost 100+
