Some advice on amp for subs

Hey just bought two new 12" Alpine Type R, and they are rated at 500W RMS, and i was looking for an amp today to handle them.

    Would two of these do?:

KENWOOD KAC-9102D 1700 WATT MONO AMPLIFIER
    # Amplifier Type: Mono
    # RMS Power: 500W x 1 @ 4 ohms
    # THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.08 %
    # RMS Power: 850W x 1 @ 2 ohms
    # Speaker Level Inputs: Yes
    # Preamp Outputs: Yes
    # Built-In Crossovers: LP
    # Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB
    # Frequency Response: 5-200 Hz
    # Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB
    # Fuse Rating: n/a

    Cheers guys...

Why 2? Why not just run one? Yes, two would produce more power than one (about 15%) but is it worth 2x the cost and current draw?

Keep in mind that since the 2 speakers can handle 1000 watts, and the amplifier produces 850 at 2 ohms, does not mean that the speakers can handle whatever you toss at them. You still have to pay attention to distortion.

Also, that power rating is probably for a sealed enclousre with 1.25 cu/ft per speaker. That number lowers when you use a ported or bandpass enclosure

I would suggest something a little more high end than a Kenwood

    JL AUdio
Alpine V12 (2 of these would kick ***: http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=MRD-M605 or if money is an issue: http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=MRP-M650 two of those)
    The PG would work

I have just never been a big fan of Kenwood...they make OK product, but that's about it IMO, nothing great.

if you can swing it: http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...odel=MRD-M1005

would probably work, but I understand it's "expensive" to some budgets

just don't skimp on the amp, whatever you do, don't skimp on it!

Hey, would you consider these kenwoods skimping?

    the amp you suggested second only puts out 400W x 4ohms (0.08 THD) and 600W x 2ohms.

    the kenwoods are 500W x 4ohms (0.08 THD) and 800W x 2ohms?
Sorry i don't understand this, are you just going by the quality of the brand, because i got the impression more RMS Watts to the sub = Better.

I was looking at buying one Alpine V12 and running them both from that, but im sure the 2 kenwoods would be better?

Cost is a thing for me, i didn't want to cap $2500AU when setting up my system:

    Already bought:
    Sony Xplode Headunit: $370
    Kicker 6x9" Speakers: $100
    2 x Alpine R Type 12" Subwoofers: $565

    Still Need:
    Kicker 6" Speakers: $115
    2 x Approx. 500W RMS Amps: $700
    Touchsreen 8" Moniter: $350
    Wiring & Installation: $300
    Sub Boxes: $150

    ...

    thanks guys...

Sorry, would this Kenwood be better than the one i first suggested, i would have to bridge both of them, but its cheaper and says it would output 500W @ 4ohms the same as the first one...

    KENWOOD KAC-7252 1000 WATT 2-CH AMPLIFIER:
    # Amplifier Type: 2-channel
    # RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 170W x 2 @ 14.4V
    # THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.08 %
    # Bridged RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 500W x 1 @ 14.4V
    # Speaker Level Inputs: Yes
    # Preamp Outputs: Yes
    # Built-In Crossovers: HP/LP
    # Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB
    # Frequency Response: 10-45,000 Hz
    # Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB
    # Fuse Rating: n/a
