This is not as easy at it looks. The interface is a complex one.

The best place I found for information is in this forum:

    http://forums.swedespeed.com/zeroforum?id=22

I personally use the USASPEC PA-VOL11 for my HU-801 without nav. It is an iPod adaptor with an Aux-In. As I do not have an ipod, I use it as an Aux-In only device. I know that for HU with nav, it is a bit more complex, so read the forum.

    The sound is great.

Hu-801 input with my pa11vol usa spec

Hey, I just bought the pa11vol; I can't seem to get my HU-801 on a 99 S80 to recognize it. Could you walk me through how you did it? It would help me out so much.

I'd love to, but it's been close to four years since I have installed the thing in my car ...

Please explain what you've done, and what seems to be the problem.

    My attempt

I took out the head unit (not connecting the power). Located the empty (cd changer???) slot at the back of the unit. I connected in the pa11vol. Then just to test it out, I connected the power and ground to the power and ground feeds of the exposed cigarette lighter. I connected my zen mp3 player to the line in and made sure that the pa11 was configured for it. However, there was no indication that anything at all had changed with the HU801 head unit. Do I need to find a different power source/ground. Am I connecting the pa11 into the correct input on the back of the head unit? How can I get the head unit to actually recognize that there's something attached?
BTW, Thanks a lot for replying to my inquiry and trying to help me out.

OK. Here is a post I on another forum at the time I installed my PA11-VOL:
    http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=40514

Note that I took the power from the big red wire on the radio itself, as this power line is somewhat "cleaner" than others, and that the ground was taken from the right fixation screw on the radio itself. I remember from discussions with other people that the place where the ground was connected was important, as it did not work well when taken from somewhere else. Why? Dunno. It does not make really sense, but it proved right.

Now. When everything is properly connected (make sure the connections are good) turn the radio ON and wait a couple of minutes. A "CD-CHANGER" option should now appear on your radio at the right of the "FM AM CD" line. Then select CD-Changer, and your radio should show "CD6 Track 1". And there you go.

Do a search on forums.swedespeed.com for "pa11", and you will find many posts explaining problems and how they were solved (or not). I suggest you read all of them before going forward.

    Good luck!

One last thing: you have an HU-801 in a 1999 Volvo? I tough they started to make this radio model in 2001?

    thanks!

Thank you for all your help. As for the HU-801 in my 99 s80, I'm a little baffled. I got the s80 in 2001 or '02 from a volvo dealership. A close friend also bought one at the same time so we got a really good deal. However, his didnt have the 4-disc changer, and I assume that means no hu-801. Well, I guess I just got lucky. -lol

Well ... You may not be that lucky after all ... Read the messages from the forums site I sent you - it seems that the "pre-2001" HU-801 firmware may not be compatible with the PA11 ..
