I bought the Pioneer DEH-P6400. I soldered to the gold contacts on both the faceplate and the HU. Search some of my previous threads for photos. In all humbleness, I think I found the best way to do the wiring. Most guys seem to just hold the wires up to the front of the HU and start soldering to the contacts. I took my HU apart, drilled a hole in the back of the HU and fed a VGA cable in from the back side. The VGA wires then come out the front via where the hinge arm for the faceplate used to attach (I removed the hinge brackets.) The wire comes out the hinge opening on one side and then I soldered them to the pins. That way the cable is buried and it makes for a very nice install. I used hot glue over the top of the brass contacts to protect the soldered wires and help relieve any wire stress when working around the HU.
The Pioneer I bought didn't have an AUX-IN. However, it has the IP-BUS connector. Pioneer makes a box that adds the AUX-in. It plugs into the IP-BUS. I bought the better of the two boxes, I think it was a model 20? RA-20 or some such thing? With this AUX-IN, I was able to daisy-chain a 6 disc CD changer onto the IP-BUS after the AUX-IN box. That way, I can be listening to voice navigation under IGuidance at the same time that I'm listening to a CD on the CD changer. The audio from both are muxed together on the AUX-IN!
I also have the option of playing CDs on the DVD drive attached to the computer. But this way I can play a CD on the CD changer without turning the PC on or I can turn the PC and use both.

I have successfully done it on my alpine unit. Do a search you should see the thread I put. Its relatively easy if you have the right equipment. You need a very very fine soldering tip. I would suggest buying 2 cat5or6 cables and use an extension inbetween to connect them. This way if you needed more length in the future , its very easy to extend , and you can still detach the faceplate from the headunit by disconnecting the extension, that is what I did. Hope that helps.
I have successfully done this on an alpine 9884 and maintained full functionality. I did this with two 2' cat5 wires cut in half with two couplers.
The faceplate side was relatively easy because it was the male adapter.
The trick with the female side which is on the cd player itself is to take the plate off the front. You will see a board screwed to the back of the plate. Remove this and you will see where the female connector is soldered to the board. Use these points to solder the new wire to your board then just drill a whole in the black plate to run the wires through.
Hints -
The trick on both ends is to
1) Get a little solder on the tip of your iron, then apply it to where you would like to solder.
2) Put a little solder on the wire you are attaching.
3) Press the wire up to where you put the solder from step 1, apply heat briefly and the two parts should be joined. If any needs pictures or better directions I can help.

Since my cup holders have liners in them I took out the liner and drilled a hole into the bottom to run the wires through. This is temporary till I find somewhere in my tiny a** car to put the face plate.

32 Solder joints later and some hot glue to make sure wires dont touch. Good with soldering, no so much with the hot glue gun.

It works!
p.s. I took the dash back apart because I decided to change something, as always, so I will post pictures of the female end as soon as I can

Good with a soldering iron, not so good with a hot glue gun. Soldered all of
the joints then hot glued them to make sure there were no bare wires.
Ran the wires through the cup holder since the cup holders have removable
liners. The car is very small so I have to think of a place to fit the faceplate.
Here it is working and in its temporary position.
P.s. I am re-doing the mounts for the screen because I wasnt satisfied
with how it came out. I will be able to take pictures of the female end
my trick for soldering it.

DaveB,
How did you manage to make the molds of the faceplate connectors?
Would you be able to give us a tip/the guides please?
I'm planning on molding the connector of the Sony CDX-GT460US
What molds are you talking about? I dont recall anyone saying anything about molds. How did you manage to make the molds of the faceplate connectors?
I may be missing something....
