a cap isnt going to help your dimming problem- upgrade your alternator and battery to an optima yellow top like keen70 told you. talk to nathan at www.excessiveamperage.com for a new alternator, really helpful and quick with responding. read these links.... most people think that a cap will solve there dimming problems but really it will just put more strain on ur alt. same with extra batteries.

do a search on caps in this forum (Car Audio) and see what I'm talking about. It will save yourself a lot of headaches....

A capacitor will help your amps get constant power...but it won't help your car in your specific situation. Try a cap first...if your car dies, then you will need to upgrade your battery and/or alternator. If not, problem solved.

Well, the cap is really for the amps....so let's say that your lights are dimming every time that your subs thump. That means that the battery is getting strained on every thump, which in turn means that the amplifier running your subs might also be getting strained...this will prevent your amp from preforming optimally and your system won't reach its true potential.

The cap acts as a bucket that holds power and guarantees that your amp has full power for every thump...helping your subs to perform optimally (as well as your other speakers, subs are just an example). Since the amp is not going directly to the battery each time the bass thumps (it gets the power from the cap), the lights shouldn't dim each time the subs thump.

This doesn't mean that there won't be strain on your battery though. The battery still has to fill the cap with power at the same rate that the amps draw power, so you might introduce a slight added strain, but nothing major. If you have a minor power sag, than this could be a cheaper quick fix...if you are overdriving your battery and alternator by a lot, than you will definitely need to upgrade. It would be a better idea to upgrade your battery because constant strain on a weak battery will only lead to one thing......

rpoblme with a capacitor(and y u shouldnt use one except for show)
    is
yes like 3ondubs said, when ur subs thump and ur lights dim, its because ur amp needs alot of juice to put the oomph in the kicks and long bass notes. Now, when u add a capacitor, the battery needs to charge the cap and provide the amp with power, there fore putting hella strain on it. also every time the bass hits the cap has to refill.
    Therefore no help at all
