there is the paint on kind for auotmotive use for foam.... some dense foam and egg-crate foam
What other types of materials besides the tar and butyl vibration stoppers are there for sound deadening? I've seen little things about different foams and carpets which are used in movie theaters and other sound-filtering applications... But what exactly might i be looking for? (Probably at a carpet/fabric store)

expanding foam for crevices, egg crate, weather-stripping, but you can use all that in conjunction with the butyl based stuff. i hear raammat is pretty good. edead imo isn't that great. i have it. also deflex pads behind your speakers can help some by reflecting the backwaves of the speaker.
