Checksum - awesome idea. I don't have the time (or money) to install a killer system like a lot of people do in their cars... I think I am going to seriously consider your idea.
Cons: it'll look ugly
pros: since my car is tinted, you cant see the speakers! lol!
thanks,

I saw the posts against the idea...
I dig the sound from my $100 set of altec lansing speakers (+sub) that I got... I think the quality is off the hook for the price... plus, u dont have to worry about subs, and amps, and all that stuff. power is gonna be supplied via ac/dc adapter.
the benefit over f-up, price wise, is well worth it. I'll spend $100 to get a set of pc speakers for my car. if i do see that it sucks, i dont have enough power, i cant mount the speakers nicely, etc, then i'll upgrade components. easy as that.
the $100 risk is well worth the possible benefits, imo.

I hear what you are saying, but for that 100 bucks, you can upgrade your car speakers. They won't be the best, but they will be MUCH better then stock, and then the Computer speakers.Originally Posted by breaker021

This thread will never die! sh00k, I say go for it...and let us know how it turns out. **** it, I might as well do it if it will end this silly debate.
...
Nah, I'd rather see people pay $100 for their ignorance and failure to take the advice of people who know more than them.
BTW. Take the quote "subwoofer" un-quote out of the $100 speaker set. That box was mighty big but alas the woofer is probably only 5" in diameter. Now place it next to a 6x9 speaker from your rear deck. OMFG the 6x9 speaker is a) larger, b) sturdier, and c) has a larger magnet.
Now that we have ascertained that pc speakers are roughly equivalent to stock car speakers lets move on. Compare your $100 pc speaker set to a $75 4 channel amplifier and $15 wiring kit. Who's gonna win now? I'm going to bet my money on the amplifer because it is a) powered off DC, b) is rated in RMS power not max power and prolly is more efficient, c) it removes the DC/AC/DC loop, and d) the stock speakers have more overall cone area making it possible to produce more bass!
C'mon people. Give it a rest.
nice of breaker021 to revive this.. so.. it's next month..Originally Posted by checksum

Hahaha.
this is ******* ridiculous.
PC speakers in a car??!!
Please.
If you're worried about 7.1 sound or some over the top bull****, then get some JBL Synthesis.
But I can't wait to see checksum's results.
I'm betting one of two scenarios will happen, either;
A) He will end membership with the forums. And we won't notice, or;
B) He will do it, and come back saying how right he was and how great they sound. -- HA
but power is power! it doesn't matter if it's this AD or DC crap everyone is talking about!!
and a speaker is a speaker is a speaker guys! I mean really, you're not falling for the super hyped up marketing crap that you get what you pay for, are you!? what fools!
all car audio companies are just out to screw you over and take your money, only fools would buy dedicated car audio equipment. Especially when you can buy a set of $100 computer speakers...all fools I tell you.
I don't give a rats *** if I've had 20 people who very obviously know a **** load more than me tell me the idea won't work....why? because I'm smarter than them. I'm prettier, I'm smarter, and god damnit, people like me!

I haven't started the project yet, hopefully very soon, had to priotize other stuff in my life, but I am still considering the idea.Originally Posted by tj!2k4

First off, I am not competing with anyone here for me to go hide or be ashamed. If it does not perform as I expect, I will just remove it and go with the regular speakers and the amp, nothing to be embarrassed about.
And call me stupid or ignorant, that will not make any difference for me. As I beleive it will work great until I prove myself wrong.
