And the quality with the windows down and the wind thundering...
WRONG
WRONG
IT WORKS JUST AS I THOUGHT, IT EVEN SOUNDED BETTER THAN IN THE HOUSE.
I have tried it today, and boy was I impressed by the sound and the bass these CPMPUTER SPEAKERS were putting out. HOLY COW....
I only went half way with the volume, and I was about to go death, and no distortion at all, sound was coming out loud and clear.
I mean this was earth pounding... mouth watering, nothing like you never experience in a car sound, and trust me I know sound quality...
I swear to GOD, I have a 05 nissan Altima and I could see the car shake to the bass, and I only had the volume 1/2 way, I was scared to go all the way, because I thought I might go death.
Just sitting down, I could feel my body shaking to the rhythm of the bass.
THis thing can compete with any of your $1000+_ sound system, and I really mean it.
ALL I SPENT IS $300.00 FOR THE SPEAKERS AND $75.00 FOR THE SOUND CARD.
Woooohoooo........ it works
NOW ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO WERE LAUGHING AT ME, AND TALKING LOT OF ***, WHERE ARE YOU?????
I CANT BELEIVE SOME PEOPLE EVEN WENT AHEAD AND OPENED A FAQ OF WHY YOU SHOUL NEOT USE PC SPEAKERS. THAT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG, AND I AM HERE TO PROOVE IT. AND NO MATTER WHERE I PUT THE SPEAKERS, THE SOUND WAS COMING OUT LOUD AND CLEAR.
If you do not beleive me, I live in maryland ( silver spring ) and I challenge anybody to come by and witness what I am talking about, and give you a verdict.
If not, I will go to our next meet, which is next month and Kevin, who already has a carputer can witness the sound.
I am not done with my setup yet, need to finish the wiring, etc... this was just a test, I expect everything to finish by the end of the month...
IT WORKS, JUST DO IT, AND IF ANYBODY OUT THERE WANTS TO PUT PC SPEAKERS IN THEIR CAR, IF YOU NEED ANY HELP LET ME KNOW.
Now, who's got the last laugh
LONG LIVE THIS THREAD
I have THX, DTS, 5.1, STEREO, STEREOX2 and whatever you want to call it in my car.

That, I still have to test, because I could not drive the car the way it is. But my guess is that it will not make a lot of difference.
I will take it for a test drive, once I finish the wiring, as eveything is not bolded down yet, even the speakers.

Ok, all 4 windows down, 4 people sitting in the car, AC at full while cruising at 80mph---> I will do that on our next meet and let the people who witness it tell you about it.
Monthly Meets - DC / VA / MD / NJ / DE / PA
When you are driving at 60mph and you have your windows fully opened, I don't care what kind of speakers you have, the sound coming to your ears will be distorted because of the sound of the wind mixing with the music. That is just plain simple.
I do expect the sound quality and the loudness to go down, but not to the extend some people have mentioned in this thread.
And remember, this is for me, not for people who are 4 lanes over to hear what I am playing, I am only playing music or listening to the radio when I am IN MY CAR, NOT OUTSIDE, so I care less if people outside the car can hear the music or not.
I doubt, I will ever take these speakers past 1/2 the volume. I mean just sitting down surrounded by 5 speakers that are about 4 feet away from you, and the bass pumping was just too much. I don't know how many WATTS that was, but it was just too damn loud, and the sound wasn't distorted at all. And these speakers are only 550WATTS.
As far as the environmental condition these speakers will be put in, I don't know yet, I have to wait and see how it will affect it, if at all. These are brand new speakers, and I expect them to last at least 5 years. If I experience anything that wears downs the sound quality or the cosmetics of the speakers, I will make sure to let you know about it, so that other people can benefit from it.

You will be sadly disappointed. Do you have any idea how loud the road noise can be? Please report back after you actually drive your car out of the driveway. My midrange speakers are nothing more than computer speakers, but there is no way in hell they would be loud enough by themselves to hear it over the roadnoise, especially when powered by the built in amp on that setup.
Good luck.

well the thing about the Z-5500's is that they are more like horns than anything else....and 114dB clarity is more than enough in a car...im wondering how it holds up as well...im just not going to hold my breath...i hope it seriously works out though...

I can hear mine without distortion on the highway-windows up or down and my system is under 600W total. IF you have enough CLEAN power and everything is tuned properly, wind noise won't kill it, however wind and road noise can reach levels ~105db with the windows down, but still be >90db with the windows up unless you have a ton of deadening and sound isolation.![]()

looking at those speakers, that sub looks like it has decent excursion, hard to tell for sure because of the grill. I'm betting he's gonna get good bass, and mid-bass, but sucky mid freqs. The key would be to keep the speakers together as much as possible, maybe the sub in the back seat instead of the trunk.
