Has anyone here actually gone out and tried this yet? I'm not an audiophile, I don't care if the quality is incredible...I just want music. My car is crap, it has two speakers in the back and one's blown out, so PC speakers seem the best option for me. I'm probably going to try this, but I just wanted to know if anyone has actually done this themselves and seen if the quality is as unbelievably low as people proclaim it would be.

Wow, I thought this place was supposed to be helpful. Sorry for having a legitimate question, I'll try not to from now on.

I'm a computer person, not a car person at all, I don't even want to know how to wire up car speakers to my computer; it probably means buying more crap I don't need. Just want the music. I'll figure it out, so nevermind this post.

If you are running a PC in your car, then it should work just fine IMO.

I am planning on doing it anyway, and I beleive the sound quality only depends on the quality of the speakers you are using, listening to them in your car or in your house will now make a big difference.
Find good mounting spots in your car, try to mount them tightly so they won't move a lot and get you a decent inverter to power them.

Let me know if you have any question, I have everything planned on how I am going to do it.

    Thank you very much, Checksum!

Yeah, my car is a teeny tinny junker, so I'm going to be basically taping my speakers between chairs and behind the head rests of the backseats, and one on the dash, haha. As for the power issue, yeah it kind of sucks....with speakers I'll effectively be about doubling the power consumption of my system, but its ok....better to buy a stronger inverter than a 300 dollar bling bling audio system, haha.

Thanks for posting, I'm looking forward to your results...I'm still gathering parts for my computer, so I'll let you know how it goes for me if you let me know how it goes for you, haha.

It is nice you will thank the one person who agrees with you...

But I guess the rest of us are just wrong and have no basis in real world experiance or technical skills.

Not as much as putting 2 car amplifiers, you should be fine.

Check out my post here about the power issue (because these are the 470W power speakers I am about to get) :

@TruckinMP3: I don't like it when people say "this is right" or "this is wrong" and then just go, "trust us." I don't trust you. I don't trust him.

I read this entire thread, and everyone wants great quality audio. Anything less than crystal clear to you technical experts is rubbish.

My question was not "is this a good idea," my question was, "has anyone tried this yet?" I want to know from actual testing if this idea is worth a shot. You guys just tell me to not even try, then bash me for being an idiot and a n00b, but you don't tell me anything useful. Yes, I know this system will not be as good as a real car audio setup, but thats not what I was asking.

I respect you for your knowledge and insight, but you don't care to understand the situation. I don't care if my setup is less than perfect, as long as its better than a setup of two tiny speakers in the back of the car that crackle when I turn my volume up or down.

Thanks for posting, but in all due respect, just let us give it a shot and we'll tell you how it goes, alright?

@Checksum: Great link, looks like you and I think alike, hah. Just so I am clear on this, the bottom line of that conservation you had was that at normal load (about half or so volume on the speakers), you would only draw about 10W or so, increasing exponentially as you raise the volume? How far would you reckon on the volume scale is too far?
