It's good just to have the internal amplification just in case you wanted to power your rear fill of the hu or a pair of horns...you never know...it's also good for resale when you end up selling your hu to someone who is looking to just swap out the factory hu.

actually, I've found that those HUs without power, retain their value better, probably because the SQ freaks know what they are looking at and KNOW what they want.

generally, a true high quality QA HU doesn't have all teh extra junk in there to dirty things up.

not to mention, SQ systems in comps, don't have rear fill.

you don't buy a high end hu looking to make your money back, or worrying about resale, you buy it because it's what you want and it's what fits your needs, and you won't settle for anything less.

That was the 8061 for me back in the day....just barely out of reach....but I did run the 8051 for a LONG time (actually, up until the computer) and LOVED it.

Has anyone ever scored well in a competition by powering horns off the head unit? I'd be interested to know.

no idea - horns aren't used much if at all any more - too harsh (generally)

Found out some more information at IASCA finals this weekend. Speaking with individuals who have been in the business for years and who compete on the Pro levels.

In previous years, Eclipse used upwards of 5 servos on their head units. These servos adjusted based on the temperature and the thickness of the disk they were reading. They were virtually skip proof. In fact, some sales people were known to have drilled a few 1/8" holes through the disks and still play them without any skipping or missing thanks to Eclipses error correction algorithm and these servos.

Also, previously they had one of the best CD transports on the market. Now they are using a much, much lower quality DVD transport.

Quality isn't what sells any more. Pretty flashy spinny buzzy boppy things sell.

Thought I would post this information for others who were curious.

Was there ever a time when quality sold? I'm surprised the CD and DVD still exist. People don't give a rats *** about quality.
