Anything that uses an IR remote can easily be controlled by PC. Can't the H701 controller use the Alpine IR remote? If so, that's the easiest way. I'm not sure the various AI-net efforts have gotten anywhere yet.

Good suggestion. Unfortunately, the product's eq (at least in the latest 3.0 software) appears to be 4-band parametric...not the 1/3 octave that we're looking for. And, for the non-pirating folks, the price tag...$500. If all you wanted was a 4-band parametric, Anwida's stand-alone EQ is only $100.

my problem with software is just that it's hard to work with, especially on a 7-8" screen.

Having to tune a system with so many different controlls on screen and do it on a small screen, would be a nightmare.

I'd LOVE to see this work, but I'm just thinking about implementation.

Other than remoting in and changing settings, it just seems like it's going to be a PITA.

I'd LOVE to be able to controll the Alpine via the PC, but again, it would have to be made incredibly simple. Touching and dragging just won't cut it. It won't be easy to be exact with what you want.

Have these thoughts crossed anyone elses mind?

You think using the controller that comes with the H701 is simple? I've been so lost in those menus trying to set everything up properly, always guessing which button does what. IMO Alpine knows nothing at all about intuitive user interfaces. The only good thing about the controller is that at least it features a volume knob.

I downloaded the anwida EQ and found it to be a pretty cool tool, even though I couldnt get it to work properly. There was no way for me to seperate the raw sound playing from the EQ'd sound, so it was just stacking up and giving me crazy feedback. Buuuut.... I ended up playing around with making crazy computer feedback sounds for an hour, filtering them this way and that. zzzzrrrrrrmmmmmmwwwwwoommmmwowoooommmwooooommmm... .. fun stuff.

once you know what you are doing, it's a VERy simple piece to use, more intuitive than a LOT of others out there on the market right now.

Compared to trying to make adjustments on a 7-8" touchscreen with a bunch of sliders, yes, it's a LOT more simple.

I dont know if I agree. I've worked with dozens of H701s and I've hated every minute of it.

Maybe you should consider a better input device for your computer. A ball mouse flushed into the center console, for example, changes everything. On screen sliders and knobs can be great.

I've been working with the new Zapco amps recently, they have no adjustments on the chassis, everything is done through a USB connection to your laptop (or carpc).

edit... check out this zapco peice. programmed by an incredibly nice app for PC. It gives you full control right onscreen.

A ball mouse would be incredibly finicky IMO.

Focal has something similar out now to the Zapco.

We're just waiting for a production run to be avaliable...have some to a team member for testing in the near future.
