The zapco one gives lets you specify your crossover points, slopes, and gives you a graphic view of what's happening. Same for the EQ. The software is very solid, well developped, and straightforward to use.

we're also eagerly awaiting the new Focal amps. Big chunks of machined audio sex....

Did anyone follow through with any of the sofware suggestions in this thread? I'm just curious to see if people found a solution that works for them.

I know Red and Scott have seen this, but I wanted to subscribe to this thread, so I thought I'd put this here as well, in case anyone on this thread has any ideas on how to make this possible.

(What are we trying to make possible? Sending a multiple channel signal out from the carPC through a SPDIF output, preferably through a single cable, to a device that takes the signal and converts it to multiple channels of Analogue RCA output, high voltage, to go straight into the amps. 5 or more stereo channels would be ideal. Hope that makes sense... Should solve the hardware side of things if it works...)

can a carputer compete with a head unit for sound quality?

Im not sure if this has been mentioned as yet but the processor im using is a Dehringer DCX2496, it has 1/3rd octave eq for each channel output, active crossovers, variable crossover filters & slopes from 6db to 48db, time alignment plus a whole load of other things, but the best part is it can hook into a pc & with the free software all the units functions are controled from the screen. The only downside is it doesnt have a very strong preamp stage but as ive got almost 11 volts of signal im not that fussed.

    isn't it a Behringer :-)

how did you power it? inverter or did you pay $$$ to have someone convert it to 12volts?

As far as hardware goes I may have found a solution that would mean (I think) that you wouldn't even need a soundcard, and that would give 16 Analogue RCA outs, with 24bit/96khz capability, and all you would need is 2 Firewire ports on your PC, plus of course, the necessary software.
