well, those appear to be at least decent RCAs...don't think you would need to replace those...

Yeah, they're pretty think. I barelly fit 2 sets of those behind the side trim...

Well, I pulled out the RCAs today to see where the noise is, and I didn't remember corectly, as with the RCA's pulled out of the PC there is no noise. Even with the RCAs not in the PC, but right next to it, no noise. As soon as I connect them to the PC, the noise is back...
So I take it it's not the RCAs then...What else can I try...? I'm all out of options I think...

chances are the line voltage coming in to the pc has that noise on it, and you need to clean the incoming voltage too. I've used both a DC noise suppressor as well as a ground loop isolator to have noise only when no music is on, and the amp is at max sound. even then, it's just audible!

the isolator was a 30 quid Shark brand from maplin, which is their own I think. the nois filter is only a fiver, again Shark and from Maplin. I tried to find it on their website but can't. I've seen them on their shleves though. I will try to get you an order code if I can.

edit: perhaps before you do that, you could verify if that's the problem by using a clean dc signal, like an ATX supply on a long extension cable from the house (unless you can park in the house )

edit: I keep adding to this thread! I used to get noise when I touched the screen, the harddisk and engine. to my shock, the voltage cleaner + ground isolator rid me completly of it all.

Yup, that what I get. I'll try and get a filter for the cable powring the DC PSU, as I'm 99% sure that's what's causing this...

Would be really interested to hear what the solution was for you Cris, if you ever are able to find one. I'm currently having the problem as you are, exactly the way you described it. I get noise when everything is on, and as soon as I take the RCA cables out of the P.C. the noise goes away. One thing I did a little differently was running the VGA and USB cable alongside my RCA's... I didn't think they would cause any interference... could that also be a source of some of my noise?

I'm getting a whine that goes up in pitch with the engine speed, also a buzzing that seems to speed up with engine speed. Then theres another bit of noise that I can only hear with the volume all the way down, its a very low pitched popping coming from my sub, its like every 1 or 2 seconds it pops.

Think I may need line conditioner? I know all my grounds are good so that can't be the problem.. If it was my spark plug or wires it would make the noise with the RCA's plugged in or out so that can't be it... my P.C. must be putting out noise on the sound card. I haven't tried using a USB sound card yet, maybe that would work...

maplin code VW45. It's not the main product, search for that item in the list of stuff at the bottom. It's discontinued. They have quite a few at the Kingston store. if you're intersted in this one, then let me know quickly. just cover the postage etc and I'm happy to do it.

There has been an issue with some poor VGA cables causing noise if run too close to the RCAs. It could help keeping them seprate. Ofcourse, I did that, but it didn't help me.

Cheers Sama. Thanks for the offer, but I'll get a similar one from here. Thanks again mate.

These are high quality (but expensive):
    http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=146

They have a twisted pair construction, and 24k gold plated contacts.
If you still have problems with these then it is not the cables.
