Hello.
I'm about to smash something with a hammer.
Has no-one else fitted one of these units to a new Renault?
Thanks
Gary
Hello.
I've just bought a VDO CHM 604 MP3 unit for my 2005 Renault Laguna.
This has 'update list' on the front of the HU and has the blue iso socket on the back.
I've plugged the VDO unit into this but I can't get it to work. The CHM powers up and the dash display shows 'disc 1-6' . The Changer loads the cartridge and slides the 'disc 1' tray into postition but then it stops. The CD doesn't spin at all. Also, the dash display says 'no cd'
I've tried two different VDO units (both new) and a huge variety of discs (original, mp3 - -r +r ) but I can't get it to do a thing.
I thought this would be easy plug and play. Am I missing something?
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
Gary

I guess not.![]()
However, can anyone point me to a diagram / layout of either the ISO pic config on the renault radio (radio is REN RDW 270 - 10)
Or the pin config of the VDO Changer din?
Both would be even better.
Alternativly, can anyone explain how I can test what each does or perhaps explain what might be sent down each indiviual cable
I just have this feeling it's a pin config problem.
Thanks in advance![]()
I have just had the same problem with my 2005 Clio with the update list headunit.
I swapped the cd changer for the CHM604MP3/62. The /62 is the important bit as it is compatible with renault head units.
I now have a 6 disc mp3 changer in my clio that works with the update list head unit and it's all rather good.
Hope this helps.
Cheers for the reply
I finally found out that the 604/62 was what I needed too. I've had it about 3 weeks now and it's still giving me problems.
It really messes around with MP3 discs (which obviously was the main point in getting this unit)
It's fine with standard discs and cdrs with regular cd tracks but the mp3 disc sometimes takes ages to load, can't play all tracks, stops in the middle of tracks and get confused with track numbers. They sometimes don't update or the number changes but it still plays the last track.
These discs work fine with all my other MP3 capable players (approx 7) And the VDO unit was the most expensive.![]()
Any ideas?
Hi,
Well i have only had it for about 2hrs so i can't really say. I did notice that it was slow to load an mp3 cd...but it's played all the tracks so far...
I will experiment with folders/no folders and let you know what i find out....
Do you find it's better with or without folders?
fyi one of the main reasons that you didn't get a reply sooner was
A) this is a forum dedicated to carPCs, not standard car audio equipment
B) you posted this in the n00b section, rather than the car audio section
on another note - are you sure that your mp3 rips/burns are not corrupted? have you tried a different ripping and/or burning procedure to eliminate that possibility.
Many times, higher end products are more picky as they will produce a more accurate sound. If they don't like what they see, they won't try and reproduce it.

To be honest, if it can't, then I'll probably send it back & get an Ipod to link up - bigger capacity with better navigation.
I'm going to phone VDO later to find out how it handles the mp3 files. I'll let you know.
Just out of interest, how did you find out you needed to get the /62 unit, where did you get it and how much (sorry to be nosey)
Yep i will use folders too....i will have a play tonight...and see what i should do.
I would have looked at the MP3/Ipod solution but i really wanted to keep everything hooked up as it was. I tried a Kenwood USB head unit and a 60Gb HDD, but it took about 3mins to read the hdd everytime i turned it on!!! SO that went back.
I bought the standard 604 and it did not work so i phoned VDO and they said..."get the /62 it will work fine with renault head units"...so i phone addacdchanger and they swapped it up for me. It was about £147.
What a fast moving thread we have. : )
Anyway. I got mine from Add a changer too but I knocked them dowm to £140 cos I'd seen it cheaper on a different site.
I've just spoken to VDO and they say it should work (typical, eh!!)
They did say, however, that it only came out about a week before I got mine (middle of May) and they've only sold 12 in the UK so far, so who knows??
Do please let me know how you get on.
Cheers
Gary
