I have a Geo Prizm that only has two built in speakers, and one of them is blown out, so I'm making a very low power Linux powered mp3 player for the heck of it now. The question is, couldn't I just use a 5.1 speaker set up hooked directly up to my computer with no problems? I really don't care about super awesome speakers and banging car audio, I just want music...are there power consumption issues and whatnot? Thanks.
Seriously man, use the search. Theres a thread that is talking about this exact scenario.
You can get a pair of speakers for your car pretty cheaply. You don't want to use computer speakers in your car. They're designed to sit on a desk and be close to the listener, whereas a car speaker is designed to be used in the car.Originally Posted by H4T
As it has been pointed out, there is a long thread about this very topic with a number of reasons why using computer speakers in the car is generally a bad idea.
Leave it to the man who owns a Geo to re-start this retarded topic...
